QFT. What lazy generation is this person from? I learned how to type in elemtary school back in the 90s and even then the rule is period space.

how is doing more work (i.e. more spaces) more lazy than 1 space

Sorry bro, as others have said, the computer adjusts the space after a sentence-ending-period for us now. To dbl space just makes it look fvcking retarded.

I learned that being lazy is doing less work (i.e. one space), but I learned that in elementry school back in the 80s ;)

I was taught to use two spaces after a period. Such a habit now that I don't know if I could stop. :p

Someone already nailed it.

double space is for typed letter, single is for most computer related uses.

i learned two spaces way back in the day. i don't know anyone who uses two spaces anymore. i just think it looks bad, and i've gotten so used to just using one space.

i can't believe the poll, do that many people actually double space after a period still? because no one is doing it in this thread.

._ _ looks MUCH nicer and cleaner. it's way easier to read.

bad schools teach ._ whereas good schools teach ._ _

wrong.

The poll disagrees with you. I was always taught to use a double space after the end of a sentence. It just looks nicer too.

You guys can argue until you're blue in the face, but it doesn't change the fact that one space after a period is correct when using modern fonts. Sorry, you lose.

No. False. The reason people are getting lazy and only putting one space, is because the word processor automatically corrects it to two spaces.

AFAIK this is correct, and I only use one space.

Whoops, >< With variable width doesn't it make sense to use space space rather than 1 space? Courier New was the old font like typewriter style, and I don't see why space space was important then.... Iono.

Absolutely period space space. Regardless of whether or not it's *needed*, it enhances flow. It makes it easier to tell commas from periods. It allows you to distinguish between ends of sentences and abbreviations.

So, you can't read ATOT very well, I suppose. Because Anandtech parses the second space. You must be so horrified by this experience that you won't stay here for long. Opps. 7 years. Must not be that bad then.

The only reason to put two spaces at the end of a period is if you are writing a paper that needs to be "X" length and you are too much of an idiot to come up with enough original ideas to make it to "X" page length...

Double space still looks better, IMO.

The difference between one and two spaces in negligible on a proportional font. It's really arguing over the most inconsequential thing in the world. And of course, HTML will remove every space after the first anyway unless you &nbsp.

But when I'm writing papers and what not, two spaces all the way.
