Easily a grand a year. I bought a powerbook and a single proc system last year, and a dually before that. I think... This year I've bought some hard drives, memory, and the tiniest little computer I could find... About to buy a Mac mini too, I think.

If you average it out aprox 500-600 a year including software, some years more, some less though.

Are you counting peripherals that are connected to it?

(like speakers / projector)

We are enthusiasts, we need to be enthused by computers. So spending money is just investing in our hobby, so I really have no problem spending lots of money on it.

I'd say something like $400-500. Reasoning is that I do a major upgrade every once in awhile, maybe 3-5 years, costing $1000-$1500, while in-between I may add a couple hundred in smaller upgrades. So ~$1500-2000 spread over 4 years is around $500.

DVD writer is something I change every year. I buy a couple new HDs each year too.

About $150 a year. I bought a 750Mhz Pentium III with a Voodoo2 and some other stuff I can't remember for about $600 in 1999. That blew up later and thankfully a friend gave me his 1.4Ghz Thunderbird in 2001 for free. In 2002 I upgraded his Voodoo3 2000 to a Hercules 4000 which cost about $100, in 2003 I upgraded my 128MB to 512MB for about $100, and in 2004 I upgraded my Hercules 4000 to an ATi Radeon 9200, also for about $100.

On average, probably only $100 - 200. But, when I need to do a decent size upgrade, like this weekend, easily $400+. It just depends.

About $1500 Australian Dollars every 5 years when i buy a new computer. So thats around $1100 USD every 5 years. I hardly upgrade but i bought a new Canon i560 printer last year if that counts.

My previous computer was a PIII 733 MHZ, nVidia 64MB MX440, 30 GIG IBM HD

My average has been over $2500 year between 1997 and 2002 because of builds I've done for family (and because components were expensive then). The last couple of years the average is way down to around $100/year and will only be high this year because of a new system build I'm finally about to get working on. lol

But, for now, that STILL makes my AVERAGE this past 10 years >$1500/year !!!

Hard to say, because FS/FT deals I make help offset some the costs.
