I doubt it'll be playable on my current system A64@2.6/6800GT@420, so I may have to wait until next fall. I remember stumbling around in Morrowind at migraine-inducing framerates, in spite of comfortably passing their "minimum" requirements.

then there must be something SERIOUSLY wrong with your sys....

i remember i played morrowind on my OLD system (XP 1900, Radeon 9800) ok...now have a A64 3500 (@2.6) and X850XT and dont expect ANY slowness whatsoever with oblivion.

i HIGHLY doubt you will have the settings turnede up near the HIGH level.... or a res above 1280 x 1024

I'm think he could pull of med/high setting, dont you think? Not with a crazy res, but with a normal 10x7 or 12x10. At least medium graphics should go well 😛

yea..i would concede that medium will run at 1024....

You misunderstood. I meant Morrowind played poorly on my old system, which was well above minimum specs, 1GHz CPU, Ti4200.

Is it an online 'pay for play' game or is it free?

Its not free ($50 on PC $60 on xbox 360) and it is a single player game. The Elder Scrolls makers have stated in the past that they focus on single player RPGs and do not have plans for any MMORPGs.

To play will require me to completely upgrade my system to PCI-e architecture mobo, seeing i am still using my ancient XP2600+ system with an agp 6600gt vid card. Just to upgrade the mobo / cpu / ram / vid card will cost me over 1000 bucks. (for the build i want) Right now thats a lot of dough just to play ONE game lol

Sounds like someone will be getting an Xbox360.😛

If they have removed the awesome shadows & textures from Oblivion it'll perform well on lower end systems. I just hope it's still got them so I can be "forced" into upgrading to a higher spec machine.

Oh, I mean free to play after purchase. Like WoW cost money to buy then more to play. I don't mind buying a game but I'm not going to pay to play it.

So I guess my answer would be, Yes, if it looks good and gets good reviews I'll probably get it.

I thought we would have all caught on to THAT trick by now. "Minimum" means just that, what it takes to start the game. They aren't posting pics generated by a rock bottom rig. Those same pics that most of us will think of when we're whipping out our credit cards.

Indeed if anyone wants to play it in all its glory they will need an "insane" rig.

Yep, one of the main reasons I built this rig - okay, so my old one was an XP 2000 with a Ti 4400 😉

Oblivion is supposed to be much better optimized than Morrowind, so I'm hoping it runs pretty good on even lower Systems.

With the great graphics and the Radiant AI this should be pretty interesting . . . .

I think I will, i just dont want to shell out the $50 for it (i'm 16 and i'm cheap....sorry!)

However, I dont think that the system requirements will be to terrible. I've seen the recommended requirements on the Oblivion official website (i think it was that site....) and it didn't seem too bad, i think i can remember recommending a 1.4 GHz cpu/128 mb video card/512 mb's of ram. I'm sure more will help, but i'm not worried with my setup.

A *MUST PLAY* title. There is only one game for I would put it aside (for a while, hehe): Empire at War 🙂

I think I could play it in MOST of its glory if not all, and I don't really have an "insane" rig 😛 but really, x360 can't play it in all its glory if you get down to it...

Is this coming out soon?

It is supposed to be coming out soon. My guess would be around March 20th, but they lock release date threads like crazy over at the TES forums. They haven't claimed an official release day yet (unless you count 'Early 2006'), but its almost completed.

Bethesda themselves haven't said so I believe. Only other companies. Like I said, they Bethesda locks all release date threads on their forums, and the only date they have announced in Early 2006.

EDIT: Also, Beth has said they want the PC and X360 releases to be very close together, or as simultaneous as they could make it.

Bethseda has said all along they want to release PC and Xbox versions at the same time. They haven't said much outside of the info in the FAQ, but the devs have chimed in on a few issues that I thought were important. Since this stuff was actually said by bethseda officials and not one of the plethora of morons that just plain make stuff up (mostly xbox360/PC rivalry kind of stuff) over on the forums, it can be reasonably assumed its true.
1) It will NOT use starforce.
2) Windows 2000 is in testing. At the very least, they aren't going to try to roadblock you trying to install it on 2K. They just may not officially support it. The likely will after testing, since its pretty unlikely they will encounter any 2K only problems.

Also, there had been some mutterings from a PC gaming mag (UK I think) running a preview of it. They said it ran like a dream at 1280x1024/High on a robust A64 (can't remember exact model) 1GB of ram and a 7800GT. A 7800GT is a pretty beefy card indeed, but it does indicate that will probably won't have another repeat of morrowind where top of the line hardware runs it like crap.

I'm a bit more optimistic about performance after hearing a few of these things. I'll wait until a few reviews and some benchmarks come out before buying it. I'm probably going to snag new video card right after it comes out, I figure the longer I wait the cheaper/better performance I can get out of my video card buy. I'll move my 6800NU over to my wife's PC at that time. I'm hoping that will actually run well since it meets the recommended specs (barely).

How could you miss the chance for this answer as a choice in you poll ?

"I'm oblivious"

I only ever played Morrowind a little bit when it first came out and didn't like it. I know users developed lots of stuff that made it better but i never got around to trying them.

So is Oblivion gonna be more than just a prettier Morrowind ?
