After watching some of the gameplay videos and seeing the overdramatized physics and the horrible animations, I decided I'm "probably not" going to play Oblivion. A bunch of good artists does not make a good game. Looks like crap if you ask me.

Bethesda themselves haven't said so I believe. Only other companies. Like I said, they Bethesda locks all release date threads on their forums, and the only date they have announced in Early 2006.

Yes they have. I have received, as have many others, confirming emails from bethesda on our pre-orders that state a shipping date of 3/20, with preorders being shipped the day before so that people who chose the overnight service should have it on the release date.

I did not choose overnight, but I expect it sometime later this week 🙂.

Every other developer in the world uses motion capture these days, but apparently not Bethesda. I don't get it. You can't create a sufficient level of realism by hand-animating models. As a hobbyist modeler/animator, I've tried both, and motion capture is the way to go, especially for bipeds.

I'm confident that Gothic 3 will look and play much better than this game.

Mainly what I'm interested in is the AI. If it's all it's cracked up to be, then it'll at least make a good sandbox-type game. I expect almost nothing from the story other than going from point A to B to C.

I read a scan of the PC Gamer UK review. Sounds like the quests are going to be much more enjoyable and dynamic then morrowinds. It didn't say much about performance though, which is the real question I wanted answered.

im curious about the battle engine.

hope its more than just click to attack and click to block..

damn.. i was hoping to have some time this week but guess not.. work comes first i guess

Can you PM me the scan?

I got my copy. Maybe i can help a little bit with some of the questions:

1: Battle System.
I didn't get too far into the game yet (maybe played for about 45 minutes), but it is 1-click to attack and 1-click to block, and i havent really used magic to attack yet so i can't help there. However, even though it is just click to attack stuff, it's a lot more involving than Morrowind. You dont just stand there and swing and hit 1 out of every 4 times like Morrowind, in this if your sword hits something, it actually HITS something. Also, blocking is pretty hard to get your timing right. Fighting in Elder Scrolls 4 is a lot better than Elder Scrolls 3.

2: Performance.
My machine can play the game at 12x10 at Very High details and HDR. It's not perfectly smooth, but it's very playable and is very detailed!
