Which ones do you guys like better?

Personally, Deep Impact is better hands down: better acting, more realistic, just better overall.

Sorry, but Deep Impact was too close to a made-for-TV cheeseball for my taste.

I found deep impact to be a little more realistic, but Armageddon was definitely the better movie. More entertaining at least.

Armaggedon by far. Deep Impact is one of the worst movies I ever paid to see. Except for the part were the father is talking to his son, and he is blind. I cried like a baby at that part, and embarrassed my poor cousin who went with me to see it. :D

Armgaddon was a video game. To me Deep Impact was a wildly more involving movie. I watched deep impact first and then when I got to armageddon it had di's meteor-killing crew without the rest of the movie. I found the whole family thing/president deal in deep impact actually gave a person reason to give a damn!

I liked Deep Impact better.

aww..come on, deep impact is much much more original (eg black president), has a better plot (the u.s. actually built an underground cave as a last resort), and more realistic (come on, would the best of the govt actually hire an "expert" oil driller to do something so simple as drilling? plus, he has never even seen that drill before and he's so good that he could master it in a couple of weeks). sure, maybe Armageddon has better special effects, but the script sucked major ass IMHO :)

Armaggedon tried to make up for an inferior story-line by throwing in top-dollar actors. Apparently for some of you people this little ruse worked!

ahahaha Skoorb. NO KIDDING! :D

It's only worth owning armageddon for the golf scene...

oh, and I gather chicks like this movie because of the "love story" they threw in.

Hmm. They're both okay movies, but Deep Impact is slightly better.

Neither is entirely accurate. Read "Rogue Asteroids and Doomsday Comets" (or is it the other way around?) by Duncan Steel. Any asteroid large enough to wipe out a city would put enough fallout into the sky for a good year or two of darkness.

<< Clearly the object(s) that hit the Earth at the time of the death of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago caused global effects: Anomalous quantities of rare metals and isotopic anomalies have been found in the relevant stratum worldwide, as has an excess of certain extraterrestrial amino acids and soot indicative of at least 90% of the world's biomass being incinerated . . .had identified an impactor size of at least 10 kilometers, but the size of the crater recognized in the Yucatan in 1990 (at least 180 kilometers, perhaps 400 kilometers in diameter), indicates that the projectile might have been closer to 20 to 40 kilometers in size. The frequency of such impacts cannot be estimated with any confidence, but it is likely to be in the once per 10- to 100-million year range. >>

Quote from the book . . . if a rock 40 to 80 miles wide incerated 90% of the life from the Earth, what would a smaller one do? That's why I laughed my ass off when Billy Bob says, "It's the size of Texas, Mr. President."

yeah Deep Impact is more realistic.
but for most ppl, going to movies is for entertainment purposes.

and yes, Armageddon's story line sucks but it's definitely more entertaining.
i therefore keep my stance and vote for Armageddon as the better movie.

and deep impact is accurate in this sense: when the comet was split in two, the smaller one would create a catastrophe, the larger one would create an "e.l.e." causing unsettled dust to block sunlight for two years, killing plant life in 2 weeks, and animal life in a few months.

True, Nero, but the smaller one hit in Deep Impact, remember? Even though it hit the ocean, enough water would flash into steam to cause a greenhouse effect.

Damn, I love that scene! The only scene that's even more fun is in Carnasaur when the T Rex bites the heads of the greenies who chained themselves to construction equipment.

perhaps, xeroxman. how big was the smaller one? I think it was 1/4 of the whole comet, which was the size of new york city.

Russ - I thought I was the only one who'd seen that movie!!! LOL. It was hilarious when Louise Fletcher gave birth to the baby dinosaur, too. If you need a good laugh, check out Carnousaur 2. It's like they took the shooting script for Aliens, changed the names around, replaced the aliens with dinosaurs, and filmed it. Same plot twists, same gotchas, even a duel between a T-Rex and a forklift at the end of the movie. LOL.

memorable amazon ratings/comments:

aramageddon:

"Laughably stupid, this movie is best explained as a punishment from God. There is nothing redeeming here, the characters are cloying at best, and I was often confused about who was alive and who was dead (perhaps because I didn't care). Secretly, I was rooting for the Meteor."

for deep impact:

"Great, they made 2 movies of a really good idea and they both deeply SUCK!Armageddon at least had effects and good action but this doesnt even have that.Bad characters, terrible acting, really bad sub-plots and it just gets boring. The only good thing compared to Armageddon is that here you get to see the comet hit. After the first ten minutes after they tried to blow up the comet i started thinking "Cant that comet already hit earth" but nooo,we have to see how the newsreporter played by Tea Leoni settles his problems with her daddy and how Elijah Wood(Most annoying actor after Leo DiCaprio must say) fights to save her girlfriend/wife.When the comet finally hit i couldnt hold my laughter when Tea Leonis character hugs her father. Its got cheesy moments that would be great for MST3K,oh wait,it was cancelled darn, now theres no use for this movie.Still Armageddon sucked also."

EDIT: another comment for deep impact. it's so stupid it's HILARIOUS!

"Don't buy this ummmmmm I guess movie.Nothing ever happened and it was sooooo stupid.I had a good nap and all but I could of had dinner at Mcdonalds and had a better time.ZzzzzzzzzZzzzzzzzz "

Armeggedon was a genuine waste of time. Sooooo cliched... it was almost unbearable! I mean doesn't Willus know how to blink? I mean geeze, the second best moment in that film was when he died... the flashbacks were great, although they probably should have been centered around beer rather than his sexable daughter ;)

this film left me with the feeling that I could have written the script and directed the film... when I was 10 (/edit) or maybe 5?

I haven't even seen Deep Impact but it isn't hard for me to see it being much better. I'm glad I didn't pay for this flick but I wasted my bandwidth and 2 hours that I want back of my life on it...

OMG!!! :Q I've seen carnosaur too! That's the one where the military base tries to culture their own T-Rex and it escapes right? And then the white trash that lives by the garbage dump saves the day? Talk about a cult classic :D

BTW, I liked both movies, but for seperate reasons. Armegeddon was a fun movie. Deep Impact did a good job of relaying a sense of reality, and kind of gave me that "oh fsck, we're all gonna die" feeling.

I own both, and enjoy both of them for differing reasons.

Armageddon hands down. The DVD still stirs me on certain parts.
Deep impact is just another shtick for that kid who was in NORTH.
