thus make it much easier for someone who is 16 who can't handle it to get thier hands on it.

Let me throw this out. Maybe there is such a rise in drug use like esatacy is because it is MUCH easier to get drugs than liquor. I know im off base on this but if the drinking age is lowered BACK to 18 would drug use decline? <<just a rambling thought.

The most common drug amongst teens is pot, and to be completly honest with you, I'd almost rather have my child doing pot than drinking alcohol.

I agree that pot is alot less dangeros that beer. it is impossible to smoke till you kill your self. But I know this medic who went on a call for alcohol abuse in some 30 year old guy. when he got there the guy was dead and his skin was blue. he asked the guys friend what happend and he said that he could chug a bottle of 151 rum. His blood alcohol level was .30. this guy proves Darwin's theory (survival of the smartest). It isn't just the kids who do supid stuff, stupidity is every whare.

It's my personal opinion that 7-11's should stock pot instead of beer, but I don't think the gov't should tell people when they can drink.

On the topic of pot, check out tread

<< In this country you don't even have the personal freedom to kill yourself (they'll try and stop you)... If you want to be able to do anything you want at anytime then go find a country established in anarchy... Oh wait there aren't any... >>

You supported my point and didnt even realize it. I am all for decriminalizing suicide. And I am not suggesting you should be able to do whatever you want whenever you want, because that IS anarchy. What I am trying to communicate is that I feel it should be legal to do whatever you want TO YOURSELF <- this is the key. Trust me, I would be just as pissed getting hit by a drunk 18 year old, as I would be if the driver was 30. Age in this matter is INCONSEQUENTIAL. Here is a newsflash for all you sheep - just because something is legal does NOT make it right. And just because something is illegal does not make it wrong or immoral.

<< So if an 18 year old gets drunk and kills somebody he should pay the consequences, while the other person dies... If the government allows the 18 year old to do so aren't they partially morally responsible? I'd rather have a government that's trying to protect me... >>

At no point has the government ALLOWED someone to kill someone else... I just dont follow this.

BTW, the government does not grant privileges and freedoms, it really only restricts them. Think about it. No government, you do whatever you want - unlimited freedom. But there is a problem with this, something I may want to do may conflict with something you want to do. Who is right, who wins? This is why the government was created. To PROTECT the freedoms you already had from others.

Phil21: "IIRC the legal drinking age in NEw orleans is 18. Why doesn't someone get the statitics from that city vs the entire US and see what happens?"

Shmorq: "Yes... New Orlean's limit is 18. Because of this, I believe they get less aid financially from the Federal Government than they normally would."

The legal drinking age in New Orleans is 21 (as if new orleans doesn't have enough probelms already....). I live here and have for 9 months.... Even with that fact drinking is rampant, DWI checks are numerous, and the bars don't serve minors...its tight, really tight. You can get alcohol underage, but not very easily from the average bar....The French Quarter who knows?

For a while after the Federal dollars became tied to the 21 year old drinking limit and hwy speed limits, etc. New Orleans (Louisiana) did attempt to buck the trend by allowing 18 year olds to drink. The idea was that state wide this brought in enough liquor tax and tourism dollars to compensate for the lost federal funds. Eventually the federal funds became more valueable than the taxes on liquor.... Louisiana was the last state to switch over sometime in the 80's I believe.

Anyway thought you might be interested.

I dont want to sound really serious and stuff but...
I live in Israel where the drinking age has and alwways will be 18. the drivingage is 18. the voting age is 18... well you see my point. army is manditory and i served my time. alcohol was never considerd the holy grail of teenagers!!! i think the rules about alcohol are the goverments way of making up for bad education. they cant solve a problem by making it only legal to perform a problem later on...

its stil the same problem!

i think too many 18 year olds now-a-dayz are too immature, and are not really considered adults, and the people who really wanna drink alcohol will get it somehow anywayz, so i think it isn't necessary to change the law taht we have right now.
