uhm that whole fop-38 7200rpm fan at 46 db makes one want to turn his/her computer off when sleep is required hehe.

I use a hibernate program with win2000. It shuts down my system, then when I want to use it, I hit the space key and it resumes Windows. Saves a lot of money as the computer fully on uses over 200 kwh and with hibernate, it is about 2.

I used to live in the UCLA dorms.

this girl on the floor -- i told her that it's ok to leave the computer on all the time.

she said this, "well, i don't want it to melt."

after i stopped laughing for 10 minutes, i told her that i culd not melt.

then she said, "it likes to be turned on and off. i don't want it to be hurt."

WTF? so after i stopped laughing for 10 minutes, i just left because she was so dumb.
hahahahahah

BTW, my computer is on all the time ..damn loud!! (4 case fans!)

I keep this 2k machine up 24/7. Got more fans/coolant than needed and I RC5/Seti so it's nice. Also I have a few FTPs/Fserves running. 🙂

The interent two of my machines get turned off at night. One of the dual P-Pros has been on since september, without a reboot.
Thankfuly it has hotswap drivebays so i can upgrade the HDD space without restarting. Since being turned on it's gone from 2.5GB(OS Drive) to an additional 5x18.2GB 10K rpm drives.

Come to think of it, my tv episode collection is getting rather large.
Once my DSL(hopefully before Feb20) is back on they will be available for TRADE on cutemx again.

Never goes off...ever. I just turn my monitor off when I'm not there and that saves about 140W of power consumption. The computer itself is probably eating 150-200W.

I use to leave my boxes on 24/7 365 since 1990... I just recently started shutting them off at night when I saw last months electricity bill... almost $300... OMFG!!! I guess leaving 3 machines running all the time eats up quite a bit of electricity. I'll probably leave them off at night until broadband becomes available here.

I leave it on 24/7 because I'm at college and I don't have to pay for electricity. However, since I'm on dial-up at home I turn it off when I don't need to use it. Besides, my parents gripe about me wasting their electricity. :b

on a laptop, so yeah, i turn it off, else i would definitely run the battery to the ground. my work pcs are always on, all the time. even my test lab.

I set the HDDs to never spin down and shut the machines off if they aren't going to be used for over an hour. And you can take all this advanced power management BS and pitch it in the lake as far as I'm concerned :|

The 3 of them in my computer room 24/7, wife's machine in the den 24/7. It's too quiet without the sound of fans humming in the background. 🙂 RC5 & OGR 24/7!

well, actually, i've been turning mine off lately because i live in California, and the electricity shortage isn't too cool

so i turn mine off and try and save some electricity..

i hope all the dorm people in college in CALI turn theirs off too! u wouldn't want your computer to melt!

heeehhehe

i turn my computer on when i wake up...if i leave the house for more than few hours i will shut it off...i turn off the computer when i sleep..electricity is too expensive where i live..
