To be fair I guess I should have noted that I played every sport imaginable while growing up and I never broke a single bone. Basketball ended up being my fortay (sp?) and I've jammed enough fingers that I'm sure I've had a couple hairline fractures etc but never had any serious problems.

I think I'm pretty sturdy and the chances of me breaking a bone when I'm done growing and my bones are at their hardest is unlikely. I'm still hoping for some kind of fracture though because it will make it all a better story :D

I guess you put a slice of beetroot on your hand, and found out you're allergic to beetroots, and you haven't washed your hand since.

He was basically calling me a sissy, so I continued with it for a few weeks. I played the piano and violin with it, went through school, etc. It wasn't until many weeks later that I was forced to go to the doctor, and they found that my metacarpal had been broken. It had already healed, and now I have a lump there.

Did you all care to hear about that? Me either.

Heh, which one did you break? That's what I did, except I don't think I even told anyone about it. I didn't know it was broken at the time. And thankfully, there were only a couple weeks of school left. I learned to write with my left hand, and that playing basketball might be painful, but not painful enough to stop. :p

Your theory seemed solid, then I remembered I don't even have a clue wtf a beetroot is.

Saw the doctor today and he said it looks bad but probably isn't broken due to the real lack of pain. Had to go to a different place to get the X-Rays done and he won't get to see them until tomorrow or the next day.
What kind of messed up hospital did you go to? A few hours max at any real ER and you'd have the real answer and a cast if needed.

It wasn't an ER. My insurance wouldn't cover an X-ray done by the in-house xray people, I had to drive 15 minutes to a different location to get it done. Still haven't received a call so I'm gonna go ahead and say there isn't anything wrong, but if that status changes I'll let you guys know.

It could be that it's broken.

Samething happened to me, looked alot alike. Bruised and battered knuckles, but the swelling was in the hand, not the fingers. Turned out that I had broken Metacarpals.

They hurt like bitch, though, I couldn't even fold my laundry.

Yes, all the swelling and most of the bruising is on my knuckles not my fingers. Even so, since the injury the area of the bruising has spread to include the entire top of my hand to my wrist and down all of my fingers to the middle knuckle where the purple region stops. I have full use of my fingers with relatively no pain though.

ER= Emergency Room

Possible broke hand the day after doesn't = Emergency

I call BS here. X-rays do not NEED TO BE DEVELOPED AND VIEWED later you stupid moron, they are instant.

Christ you are stupid.

No but after you get the X-ray done, you get your answer, it has NEVER taken me more than 3 hours and one of the times was around christmas.

Goes for three countries, none of them was the US, if your medical care is that sucky i would be surprised.

When it happened to me up here in Canada,

The x-rays were nearly instantaneous, but the radiology tech isn't allowed to make a diagnosis. She did gimme the unofficial word, though. It could be that since I had it done in the hospital, and the doctor was just one floor away, they were pretty laid back about the whole thing. It could be that that X-ray place doesn't have a doctor on, and so the diagnosis has to be given by the guy's doctor, so it takes a day or two to get the X-rays to his office, and for him to have a look at them. Just a theory, though.

The person that took the x-ray didn't tell me anything about what the pictures showed. I asked her if I could take them back to the hospital and she said that since the slip I brought to get the x-rays didn't say stat on it that she had to mail them to him.

Depending on the system that is used, xrays need to be developed before they can be viewed.

Digital systems are instantaneous. The image is taken, stored in the computer and then the radiologists will review them later.

Most studies don't get interpreted by the radiologist right away. There's usually a few hours lag unless it is an emergency.
