It all depends what you are gong to use it for...for most people, 2 MP is enough. 3 MP seems to be the "sweet spot" right now.

If you want to print out normal sized photos with the camera a 2 is all you need.

I print out stuff all the time at wal mart with my 2mp camera and people cant tell the difference between them and a film camera's prints.

Canon A60 does this just fine IMHO:)

For most people 95% of the time, yep.

My A60 does a fine job.

I *CAN* tell the difference in many shots between it and say, my brother's 5MP G5 though.

I'd say 3MP is a pretty good compromise.

If you want to print pictures I would recommend something higher than 2MP but for sending pictures via email to your family or for posting pics on the Web 2MP would be enough.

If buying new, I'd shoot for 3.3 or higher (depending on budget). No reason to buy anything less...
On that note, I still have my old 1.3mp olympus, and for general "family camera" pics, it's just fine.

I have a kodak 2.1MP and i printed tons of 8x10's and smaller with it. Very good qaulity. I now also have a 3.2MP Fuji 3800... and I dont see a major difference between the photo quality. Though I havent printed near as many 8x10's with the newer camera.

If you are NOT going to print any pictures then 2MP is just right.

4x6 - 2MP is ok

8x10 - 3.2MP or higher is recommended

If you are going to print a lot of pics, I would highly recommend the Canon i560, i860 or i960 photo quality printer.

Isn't it more cost effective to just print out select photos at walmart? I mean, if you don't print out a lot of photos -- since those photo printers are extremely expensive, break down a lot (it seems all printers non laser based break down or have alignment/saturation issues all the time), and not to mention the cost of ink as well...

Thanks. The A70 fits my need to print 8x10 pictures. I really need a new photo printer. All I have is Samsung ML-1710 laser printer and i320 which is ok for photo but not larger ones. i560 looks like a good choice, around $80 after MIR.

2mp with good lens vs 3mp with crap lens, get the 2.
Also when considering a 2mp with optical zoom vs a 3 without.

I have both, my 2mp is a real cheapo though that I can toss in the car and not care if it gets broken. Works out fine as I don't plan to do prints with it, just for those 'hey, you should have seen this' moments so I have a pic to go with the story.
