I would honestly buy dell. But you are missing many brands there. What happened to the overpriced alienware systems, and falcon-nw systems. Maybe some people would even buy mac's.

In my experiences, both Dell & Gateway use pretty standard parts in their systems. You obviously don't get overclocking features. Although in one Gateway system that I worked on for a friend I reconized the MB as an Asus. I then did a little more checking on it & sure enough it was the Asus A7V (KT133 MB). We then got ambitious & flashed the BIOS (using a BIOS SAVIOUR) to the Asus Bios & it worked :). He now has a rebadged Asus motherboard for all intents & purposes.

I'd call up Steve and say,"I'm gettin' a Dell, dude!"

That's what the company I work at gets and they've all been great, straight out of the box.

if I had to buy a pre-built for some bizarre reason I'd go thru either our very own Red or Russ depending on what I needed, 3rd choice would be a Dell. I'm very picky on my computers and want only the best.

compaq, we have about 75,000 at work, and for all the carp some people throw at compaq, they do quite well over all

also, i bought my wife one two years ago, it hasn't had any problems (hardware wise) , so its also been a good pc

i would definetly NOT buy an HP . i helped my parents buy an HP about the same time i got my wife her compaq, and it has given them alot of trouble. the modem never worked right and HP never fixed it, their support just kept feeding B.S. to my parents and never resolved the issue

If there was no other option I would opt for a Dell, but I would rather go computer-less.

Goober, you should have an option that's "I'd shoot myself first," because that's what I'd do if I was forced to buy a prebuilt.
Then I'd buy a dell ;)

It depends on the type of purchase:

Home or Home Office - Dell
Work/Corporate LAN - HP Vectra's own

I have never had a pre-built (except for a laptop) and I never will. That is my final decision.
