That's a huge selling point to me so it would make them far less appealing.

IIRC only some of the warranty is TRANSFERRABLE, also they depreciate very quickly and don't do that well on crash tests.

They could give them a lifetime warranty and I wouldn't buy them.

I do not like green eggs and ham Sam I am.

My dad had a Mitsubishi Galant for 3 years, did 80,000 miles or so in that time, no problems.

The whole appeal of a Hyundai is that it has a long warranty and is inexpensive for what you get. If you take one of those factors away of course sales would go down. I own two Hyundais. I based my purchases more on talking to people, reading online reviews, and ACTUALLY DRIVING THE CARS...which I'd wager 99% of the people posting in this thread have not.

I would buy it as a commuter car,
It's a much better choice i think that lets say a cavalier.

I am more pleased that they offer the 10 year warranty which would definitely get me to purchase an Hyundai

I owned an '89 Hyundai Sonata, and it was absolute junk. Complete POS. My parents have a '96 Kia Sportage. It's been in the shop more times than I can count and it's possibly the most underpowered vehicle I've ever driven.

I know that they've improved a lot, but I doubt I'll ever give them another chance at this point. There are many alternatives that have a great track record (i.e. Nissan, Honda, Toyota) and domestic cars are rapidly improving as well.

I forgot to vote.

It would depend on what warranty they offered. I wouldn't buy any car with NO warranty. But if it was cut in half to five years I would still buy it based on the fact that I've had my 1st Hyundai for over 2 years now without any problems. And I've driven the sh!t out of it.

I would buy it as a commuter car,

And I think thats why most people buy them. No one is buying a Hyundai to show off. Some people just don't need expensive cars to feel important.

Well Hondas and Toyotas aren't that much more expensive and you get MUCH better quality and reliability. There is really no contest. Hyundais/KIA's are just for cheapskates :D

Any reason why? Or just a blind opinion?

And BigSmooth:

I would never buy a Hyundai older than a 2000. I agree that they WERE crap vehicles back then.

Kia was near the bottom and Hyundai was in the lower tier with Mitsubishi, Volkswagen, Isuzu, etc. http://www.prnewswire.com/mnr/jdpower/11054/
I still drool whenever I see a nice VW Passat but then I remember it's a VW.

VW's are solid cars... you're trippin'

VW has been making outstanding cars for over 10 years now.... they are really solid and very safe. They pay a great deal of attention to detail.

-you just got pwnd

You are the one trippin' my fine feathered friend, don't ask why I just referred to you as my FFF because I dunno why.

Once VW's reach the pinnacle of reliability and quality that Honda/Toyota have achieved then I will consider purchasing one.

Until then I will continue to just drool and admire from afar.

I rank VW reliability equal with Kia/Hyundia... meaning it's a toss up on which one will have more problems.
quality of materials, construction goes to the VW.

you be the G-money that's "trippin'", 'cuz you just pwned yourself

I don't like to say never, but even with the warranty I'd be hard pressed to buy a Kia or Hyundai.

VW = unreliable crap

I wished it wasn't true, I was getting an off lease 2001 VW Passat turbo, auto :(, leather, etc, with around 21k miles for about $10k (through my dad's office). Anyway, it was a very sweet car, but after some research I concluded VW's reliability wasn't near that of toyota, honda, or even nissan.

KIA 10 year warranty:

Powertrain: 10 years (drops to 6 years if sold)
Service: 1 year
Battery: 3 years
Paint: 3 years
Audio: 3 years
Anti-perforation: 5 years
Accessories: 1 year
Emmissions essential parts: 8 years
Emmissions related parts: 2 years
Link, data from page 3 of this 114 page pdf

Honda 3 year warranty:
Basic: 3 years
Powertrain: 3 years (8 years on many selected components)
Service: 1 year
Battery: 3 years
Paint: 5 years
Audio: 3 years
Accessories: 3 years

Things look nearly identical to me. But one is advertized as 3 years and the other 10 years.
