He may be a liberal, but their government is changing away from being liberal. They're actually becoming very conservative and possibly fundamentalist extremist (far-right political parties have influenced and changed mainstream politics there). Read up on the news. They're on the verge of setting up concentration camps

The concentration camp bit is just some exaggeration, but things are becoming brutal there. They've declared that multiculturalism is dead and a failure. How have they forgotten about the US and Canada? Radical, openly racist political parties are actually on the rise all over Europe. In the Netherlands, they've actually influenced the mainstream, liberal parties and changed them. It's pretty sad that they've caused so much hate mongering. I believe 76% of the Netherlands described themselves as racist in 1997.

America is probably the most conservative nation in the entire Western world. We are also as or more diverse than any other western nation, we're absolutely HUGE and we dont seem to have much problem not sending each other to concentration camps.. we are so far from anything remotely like that.

Thats the whole principle the Democratic party runs on, make the people dependent on you so that they must rely, and thus vote for you.

He thinks I think all Europeans are racist even though I provide figures contrary to that belief and have also said that not all are racists many times. In his view, because I provide details about the plight of minorities and immigrants in Europe, I have to believe that they're all racist. It's scary how people believe the world is so black/white or simple.
Where as conservatives are helping the government keep enough eyes on everyone to make sure they aren't jay walking or whatever. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Its just when its a large CONSERVATIVE ran gov't when the panties get in a bunch! Even if you WERE being watched, what the hell do you have to hide?? I have nothing to hide, they can tap my phone, check my emails all day long.. nothing will happen but their boredom.
Besides, I think I'd rather have a society with the incentive still there to go out and work hard, get educated and perform my best. Rather than make 50% of the population dependent on the gov't and then the other more proud half to eventually even losing their will to try hard when the next guy does just as well with no effort.
Societal morality plays in here, just as morality plays within the difference in voting for a Republican or a Democrat. The difference is well illustrated here in my example.
I might add (to not completely ruin a old-school Democrats day), that it never used to be this way. The far left has MUCH too much of a stranglehold on the modern Democratic party.. it is a shame and the proof of that failed union is in the pudding..

Morality has nothing to do with justice. The laws determine that. And don't give me BS about laws just being the statements of morality, because taxes are neutral in the moral arena. Law is about what is best for society, not what someone thinks is "right."

Slovenia does have major problems because 95% of the population voted that a group of minorities technically do not exist as humans (in the view of the government). They refused to give rights to a minority group. You have defended their choice many times.
The first results presented at the Closing Conference of the European Year Against Racism in 1997 found that 66% of the EU back then described themselves as racist. The question asking whether they were racist did not contain anything about illegal immigrants. I have consistently said that I can understand how people do not want illegal immigrants in their country.
