Ok please tell me, what purpose does having 4 gigabytes in a desktop PC have? I can understand having it in a server PC. Hell I can understand 1 or 2 gigs in a PC that's used for a lot of 3D editing and video editing but I can not see the point of anything beyond that.

any suggestion to fix to the problem?? is it true that 1gb is just too much for win xp since average users wont handle that many heavy applications at once???

I had a problem mixing PC2100 with with PC2700 (in a 266 mhz system) - I replaced the PC2100 with another PC2700 stick and no more stability problems

voted 256. I had 512, but I cannibalized a stick of 256 in there for my new linux box. Unfortunately, what I didnt know is that the board was defective and it fried it... :( now my main machine lags.....there should be an optioin in this poll that says "not enough".......

512MB.

My next PC will probably have at least 2GB, because I'm a Photoshop freak (48 bit RGB multilayer images at 600DPI take up lots of RAM). :)

512, but my parents computer has 640 and it is a slower computer  - wondering why did they buy that much for word processing and surfing the web...

512MB for the laptop (daily activity)
512MB for the FTP / eDonkey download server.

768mb for me.

I never thought I would "need" so much ram.

But I have a game that eats ram like candy. Thinking of going to 1gb just because it will run smoother.

When your loading MS Presentations the size of 200 megs, Games with 350 MB page files, and flash movies the size of 500+ MB's, a gig of ram comes in handy.

For video you can never have too much ram, having a movie in ram cuts the time by over 100% just on ripping alone, on compression and editing the increase is much greater.
