Theres a reason why movie theaters have high prices. To make money.

They make little to almost nothing off ticket sales. They make their money on refreshments, always have. That is why they don't want people sneaking stuff in. In 2000 over 450 movie theaters nation wide shut down, every chain was effected(AMC, General Cinema, etc etc). Every new one being built was stopped, unless it was near completion. More will be closed this year. The cost of running a theater is NOT cheap.

1. You have to PAY, to get the movie in your theater
2. Electricity and maintanence aren't cheap
3. You advertise for free
4. You get very little, if any, of the box office takings

The movie industy made the movie theater industry its BITCH, thus the high refreshment prices. They need to sell for the prices that do to make a small profit. Of course some places now add on to the ticket price to get some money from the box office, and Sony did shell out around $200,000 for a 20 sec "The Animal" trailer to air before "The Mummy Returns". But the ones that charge extra aren't to many, and it was the first time for a studio to ever pay for an advertisement in modern times.

yup, i'm working at a movie theater for my summer job..those damn CO2 tanks are heavy :D

$3 for a small, $3.25 for a medium, $3.50 for a large - and we don't even do free refills on drinks :) - oh well, i can't complain, they are paying my salary.

I think the price points for a movie theater are too high though, they would make more $ if they lowered the prices and thereby upped the volume (but of course that means that you need more ppl working, which may or may not be cost effective - we already have the setup for more ppl) - all the big theater chains are going bankrupt

<< Ok, ok... people here aren't as dumb as I thought (except one person who voted 10-20 cents :)). It costs between 2-3 cents for about 20-25 ounces of soda. How the machines work is there's a tank of syrup hooked up to the machine with water pipes in it. When you press the button to pour it, a small amount of the syrup mixes with the water, and then gets carbonated at the very end of the trip (at the nozzle where you can see it) by being swirled violently with air. It then pours out into your cup, awaiting consumption :).

/me thought he was going to get to laugh at people thinking 20/40cents ;).

The people think 10-20 cents were adding the cost of the cup. I voted for 5-10 cents because it costs me right about 5 cents for large drinks. The cup adds about 5-10 more cents to the cost.

BTW, you missed a step. CO2 is added at the nozzle to the mix of syrup and water from a tank (usually in the back room, with the syrup bags or tanks) to carbinate it, not "air."

CO2 tanks are fun. They're torpedo shaped and if you knock one over and break off the valve they shoot across the room like a bullet. I had one go through a wall :Q

lol you had one go through a wall
i see u own a fast food joint

Yeah, I have a few franchised sandwich shops. BTW, it wasn't me that knocked over the CO2 tank, it was one of my employees. Scared the sh!t outta her :Q

She was ready to quit and I had to beg her to stay, and promise she didn't have to handle the CO2 tanks anymore. It was all I could do to not laugh my ass off at her :D
