Theres a reason why movie theaters have high prices. To make money.
They make little to almost nothing off ticket sales. They make their money on refreshments, always have. That is why they don't want people sneaking stuff in. In 2000 over 450 movie theaters nation wide shut down, every chain was effected(AMC, General Cinema, etc etc). Every new one being built was stopped, unless it was near completion. More will be closed this year. The cost of running a theater is NOT cheap.
1. You have to PAY, to get the movie in your theater
2. Electricity and maintanence aren't cheap
3. You advertise for free
4. You get very little, if any, of the box office takings
The movie industy made the movie theater industry its BITCH, thus the high refreshment prices. They need to sell for the prices that do to make a small profit. Of course some places now add on to the ticket price to get some money from the box office, and Sony did shell out around $200,000 for a 20 sec "The Animal" trailer to air before "The Mummy Returns". But the ones that charge extra aren't to many, and it was the first time for a studio to ever pay for an advertisement in modern times.
