Poll: How many start up programs do you run?

Synchronization Manager in win2k will keep coming back to the start up list unless you goto:"My Computer" "Tools" "Folder Options" "Offline files" then disable them.
And the question was also asked what other services in win2k well there a big list in admin tools- services go see for yourself.

O and I have 2 startup items in win2k

uhh, yeah! after all, I have to justify a move to Windows 2K if I ever think of getting it, the only reason I know why I should move right now, is simply becuase it's more stable plus a few updates etc..

How does a list of W2K services help you justify that? They're just a bunch of background processes that regulate different stuff - network connections, power management, device drivers, multimedia, etc.
 
I have 5 icons, but only one that matters: RC5 cracking for Team Anandtech!


Running Win2K. I only run &quot;non-intrusive&quot; stuff in the systray, like sound volume, and Direct CD icon, and the RC5 icon. Norton Antivirus is there too, but disabled a lot of the time.

Keep in mind that the number of icons in the systray has NOTHING to do with how many programs are actually running in the background. Most of these are hidden. For instance in Win2K right now, I have a total of 278 threads running, and 31 processes.
 
One day when I get a better computer, I'll put AIM, Outlook, and 4 different internet explorer windows pointed at CNN, Espn, Ebay, and Anandtech (and what a world that would be)

For now, with my P2 433, I have nothing. :<
 
I very much doubt you two have nothing running. There may be nothing in your system tray, but it's almost impossible not to have something running in the background.
 
Besides systray &amp; msconfig, just ZoneAlarm...gotta DSL connection. Scared the bejesuz outta me the first day I installed it.

easy! the more features an OS has, the more I might like it. if it has services that I don't have access to in Windows 98, I think I'd like to see whether or not I'd like them!

You don't seem to understand what services are. They aren't new features, they are just background apps that manage things.

I don't know, but I'll give this thread a bump and hope someone else knows..

Sync manager always runs. It is used by Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer to sync network files and web pages. Why it runs even when you have both of those disabled, is beyond me. But it quits as soon as it realizes it has nothing to do, and uses so little of your CPU's time that it's not worth worrying about. Besides, if you remove it, it'll come back on its own.

Updreg...I haven't heard of this before. Do you have Norton Utilities or some equivalent on your system? Do you have a registry cleaner? It sounds like it has something to do with those.
 
I answered the Sync manager in my post above. The Updreg is something left over from a Creative soundcard install go ahead and get rid of that no use for it.
