yes, I'm going nuts right now..

btw, this includes all the ones in the systray (the lower right corner), and whatever else boots on startup (I think going to msconfig would show you everything).

I have 5.

-Sygate (I use this as a dial up computer, my other computer connects to the net through here)
-PS2Rate
-Distributed.net (cracking RC5, I hope you're running it too! little to no interference compared to all other programs)
-Systray.exe (says it in MSConfig)
-ScanRegistry (I think that saved my ass once).

I think it's a sad waste of resources, but that's just me.. I didn't know people had 0..

those that do, should be running Dnet and PS2Rate (assuming they use a PS2 mouse) if you ask me! I wish I didn't have to run Sygate (which is why I'm building a free router 😛).

what is Systray exactly?

and what exactly does Scanregistry do?

btw, for those with Win2K, you'd probably have to look into the registry (I don't even remember the place in Windows 9x).
 
I also have Kazaa in my MSConfig (though it's disabled), it came from Morpheus.. disable it!

I think Vortex Tray is also useless..

as for loadpower profile, you should only need one of those (if you use them at all).
 
Most things are launced from either the startup menu or the run key in /CurrentVersion/ of windows. Msconfig was nice for toggeling things run or not as well as having things in once place and stuff.

Well beyond all the W2K services running in the background, I have:

-Acrobat Assistant
-Office Startup
-ORiNOCO Client Manager (signal quality monitor for my wireless network)
-Adaptec DirectCD
-IntelliType for my keybard
-IntelliPoint for my mouse
-Sync Manager (who knows why this runs, but if I delete it, it just comes back)
-Tweak UI

I basically run MSNm, AIM, and Outlook whenever my computer is on, but I manually start those once everything else is running.

BTW-Is it "safe" to remove DirectCD from the startup? I don't even have my CD-RW turned on, so most of the time it sits there with a big red slash.

well thats a different story.. i boot with like 23 processes..

thats alot.. but ram boots with only 71 megs used.. which isnt bad compared to my 85 in 98
