POLL: How expensive was your first car?

Add under $2000 and under $1000. Mine was $50.

EDIT: Cool. It's too late to change my vote.

My first "good" car was $550 from my dad. It was an ?86 Dodge Omni in fairly good shape. The original agreed price was $750. I paid him $250 down and $100 per month, then later, as part of my 18th birthday present, he forgave the final 2 months of the loan.

<< You need to put a hell of a lot more options in the under $5K category.

$500, $1000, $2000, $3000, $4000, etc.

Viper GTS

Yep. My first was $3500 CAN. My second was $2300 US.

$7. 1950 Pontiac.
$100. 1932 Ford four door sedan.
2 used tires. 1938 Ford pickup.
$50. 1937 Chevy Coupe.
$300. 1957 Ford Fairlane 500.

All were "drive away" condition. And there have been many more.

Shoot, my first *3* cars were $400 or less. My 4th was $2400. I had 4 cars in high school 🙂. They all pretty much sucked in different ways:
1965 VW Bug 😛 $400
1976 Chevy Impala w/ 429cu. in. Cadillac engine 😕 $300
1968 AMC Rambler 6 cyl, 3 spd. 😱 $300
1980 Honda Accord 3-door hatchback :Q $2400

I had all those in 1988 or so.

Not all of us were as lucky as Russ 🙁

Mine was a $250.00 1966 Chevy Belair, 4dr, 283ci, powerglide with slotted chrome wheels, dual cherry bomb mufflers and hood pins! Talk about Rice! No, I'm not the one who riced it up! 😱

My first car was the best purchase ever, too bad I ran it into the ground (30,000 miles in 10 months will do that).

1985 Isuzu I-Mark for $1,800 with low miles.

I'm driving the most expensive car I ever bought: $4000 for a 1990 Plymouth Sundance that I bought used from Seekins Ford in 1998.

edit: Oops. Not true. I paid $5200 for a 1988 Ford Ranger XLT extended cab in 1996. I also paid $5200 for a 1990 Mazda 323 hatchback in 1991(!). That was the best deal I ever got. The car had 1000 miles on it. Yes, that is one thousand. My ex-wife still drives that car.

I haven't bought it yet, but I plan to buy a 2002 or 2003 Subaru RS - fully loaded - at the end of the year. Price at about $21k.

Current vehicle is technically my parents, but I drive it: 1989 Chevy Silverado, ext. cab, 350ci.

If you are also including motorcycles as "first cars" then the first vehicle that I have bought myself cost $3600.

do you enjoy getting ripped off?

6,200 for a 1982 Toyota Corolla. Brand new, 4speed, no radio and not much of anything really. Drove it for 130k plus for over ten years.

first car was $600 dodge mirada

5 cars later and the most expensive car is my current $3000 nissian truck that I am going to sell because I just bought my 6th car a $800 dodge caravan and no longer need the truck 🙂
