Here's an entertaining scifi short story about Asimov, semi related to creationism etc. Quick read:

http://infohost.nmt.edu/~mlindsey/asimov/question.htm

I remember that story. It's undoubtedly one of the coolest things I've ever read.

yea, the end was definitely a whooaaaaaa moment

That story was really good.

WARNING: SPOILER QUESTION

How did the computer continue to function once all of the stars were gone? Where was it getting its power from? I realize it's just a science fiction story but that was the first thing I wondered once I got to the end.

WTF so the machine became god? so this is asimov's way of saying that god invented the universe?

Human beings have developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life, but God guided this process.

This is what I believe, too, but there is no way to prove that conclusively. It is just what I believe.

If you passed high school and still think the Earth is ~ 10,000 years old... wow. *shakes head*

Our high school never talked about the age of the earth. The teachers only wanted to teach science and the parents only wanted their kids to be taught the bible, so we steered clear of the subjects where science and the bible conflicted (evolution, origin of the earth, etc).
Therefore proving once more that religion breeds ignorace.

I think all kids should be made to read 'The god delusion' by Rich Dawkins during their education. In a generation or two we could remove the cancer that is religion from our population. Of course, when you have tards like Bush claiming god sent him to Iraq, you quickly realise that the world is pretty much screwed...

Well duh, isn't that obvious?

*head explodes*

"God created human beings pretty much in their present form at one time within the last 10,000 years or so. 47 votes 16.38 (%)"

I find that extremely depressing.

Wow, that straight dope article is disturbing.

Which one is that?

I have never been so moved after reading a story in my entire life. I will never be the same.
Please tell me you are being sarcastic.

+1 for logic, anyone who voted for the first 2 options clearly suffer from some profound mental disorder.

anyone that can prove #3 over #2 gets my vote for president of earth!

<- has not read thread.

Option #1 is obviously wrong. However, I am unable to choose between options 2 or 3 because of an inherent logical fallacy -- Text

The "God" issue is irrelevant to the discussion as presented. Perhaps "God" did, perhaps "God" did not. I invite you to prove either way. Good luck with that. First, you'll have to start by defining what "God" is. Good luck with that too.

edit: OP, please correct so I can answer the poll. I suggest something like "Human beings have developed over millions of years from less advanced forms of life, but Advanced Alien Life seeded the first life." It would be the same logically as your God options. Thanks. 😉

i think it's amazing how the small advances made per millions of years was given the cake icing advancements of the last 10000 years or so. thanks evolution for putting us in the carpool lane. i don't think i could've waited the standard millions of years for cognitive reasoning. my favorite thing now is how some scientists are saying devine intervention not from god, but from aliens...... as if that's how our unusually accelerated advancement is to be explained. yes, you have to be an idiot to think the earth is 10000 years old, but you also have to be an idiot to think of god as a creature with a magic wand instead of a complete understanding of our universe, it's workings, and the direction it's headed.

point, click, galaxy!
point, click, animals!
while it's been the taught viewpoint of christianity, it hardly keeps with the bible. all god's interventions, punishments, etc. are considered natural occurances. was it just chance, or did the Great Scientist and his universal understanding merely use that knowledge as his means? just because the catholics, protestants, babtists, and so on teach magical god doesn't mean they speak for him or his son or his plan.

ahhh, the building blocks of all life. so where did nuleic acids come from? water running over rocks billions of years ago?

No credible scientist has said that aliens came down and engineered life on earth. I don't know where you got that from. Nor does "i don't think i could've waited the standard millions of years for cognitive reasoning. " make any sense. "as if that's how our unusually accelerated advancement is to be explained" We haven't had unusually accelerated advancement at all. WTF are you talking about?

well, one of theories is the basic molecules like CO2 and NH3 already existed because of atmospheric reactions. Then when lightning struck the oceans, it provided the energy for these molecules to come together and form the first amino acids.
Over time microbubbles formed in the oceans that created conditions condusive to and stable enough for the amino acids to come together and form the first set of complex polymers. The same can be said of the nucleotides.

The flaw between Options 1 and 2 is that they are being presented prejudicially as choosing between Judeo-Christianity and science when in fact that is not the case at all. The actual choice is between random chance and design. Now, admittedly, from our time-based point-of-view, random chance does have the appearance of being more logical. After all, what all-powerful God would wait billions of years when He should be able to just snap his fingers? But, oops, time is relative. And perhaps -- at the God level -- time doesn't exist at all.

The only choice is that life arose from abiogensis, and evolved over time to form humans. Anything else is pure nonsense. Abiogensis is a FACT, that no one can dispute now.
