well ya. Would you want to watch a movie in 5.1 on a 5" color screen? lol. Video is important too. Did you like it?

I'd actually consider it. It wasn't bad. It was... odd. Two plots, unrelated until the very end, but it left me confused when it switched plots in the middle of the movie without explaining or at least tying one thing between them. 😕

I'll watch it again when I'm ... less inebriated.

How close would you be sitting to the screens?

Right in front of a 19" monitor vs a few feet from a tv?

Ah, a great point that I brought up with Viper GTS via IM that I did not bring up here for some dumbass reason.

I'd be sitting across the room from the TV. Maybe 10 feet, on a comfy leather couch with blankets, pillows, beer, and a handful of crackers.

I'd be sitting in an old, warn-out, almost-comfortable office chair not more than 3 feet from the 19" CRT with the 5.1's all around me.

I pondered it and even tried making shapes with my fingers in front of my face while moving between locations -each location seems to present the same percentage of screen against the rest of the viewable area that my eye can see... if that makes sense.

Well, if the viewing angles are the same for each, then I guess the display portion of things doesn't really matter.

I guess it's sound vs comfort now.

Apparently the CRT will have a much much higher possible resolution than the Wega, but will I notice the difference?

Hey wait you're the resident audio-god on AT, aren't you?? :Q SWEET I was wondering when you'd show up 😎

I always watch movies on a 19" screen, I'm used to it. Then again, Sin City doesn't need big speakers. It's mostly diaologue, just stick to the bigger screen.

I seem to remember an action scene or two...

Scenes that I think are better viewed than heard, IMO.

If this is just a DVD it's not going to matter. It would look great on either display.

I just post in a ton of AV threads, there are people who know more than I do but most of them tend to stay in OT all day 😉

Well yeah... but it seems like screen size doesn't matter in this case since viewing angles are similar.

EDIT: actually....
18" viewable @ 3 feet is a 22.6 deg viewing angle
vs
27" viewable # 10 feet 9 is a 10.3 deg viewing angle

according to that calculator

sin city is black and white, i'd say go with the sound for this one

The fact that it's black and white should mean bigger display, so you can see what's going on. Smaller the screen, smaller the detail.

At the same resolution, sure. However, the monitor will do way better resolution than the TV, but if the viewing angles are the same, am I going to notice?

DVDs are 480i, so an SD TV is still going to do quite a good job for them.

How about watching the first scene on the TV then watching the same scene again on the computer and then you'll know what feels right to you?

Do you want to give you my paypal address or do you already have it?

You can get 480p out of a DVD player, but the DVD itself is 480i.

Look it up and you'll see plenty of rousing arguments around the internet 😉

Nik, I would feel totally guilty taking any money from you for telling you to try out both places and deciding for yourself
