When / Why did they stop putting the gas tank opening behind the rear license plate?

Probably because if you get rear ended it has more of a chance of blowing up so they moved the tank farther forward and it was a shorter tube to run it to the side instead of to the back.

I like it because you don't have to worry about hitting your door on those pipes and other crap they have. You can pull up close and not have to worry.

Actually I think it was probably because if your license plate frame spring broke the plate would hang down and become unreadable.
Though I could be wrong.

One of the current topics reminded me about a Caprice I recently saw, with 'spinner rims' on it. I was putting gas in my car when I saw this fellow putting air in his tires. I noticed the chrome rims, and was surprised to see one start to move. I had my camera, and was about to ask him if I could take a picture, but he had gotten in his car, and was impatiently waiting for someone to finish pumping their gas. He was also blocking the path for the other car to leave, since it was facing the wrong way, due to the fuel filler being on the wrong side. I decided not to bother him, because I was just going to take the pics for laughs later anyway. I could see he was going to be getting even more frustrated in a few minutes.
I'd like to know, whose bright idea is it, to put the filler on the passenger side? Makes no sense to me. It requires you to drive against flow of traffic at the pump. You have to walk all the way around the car from the door you climb out of. It's hard to watch the pump, if you decide to get back in while it's filling. WTF is the point?![]()
I remember one customer who had a Jag with the two tanks. We had to be SO careful not to drip on the thing. Same with the Stingrays.Originally posted by: Pepsi90919
