One of my favorite cars, 1971-73 Mustang Mach 1, had it in the middle of the rear panel. I perfer it there, but on my other cars it is on the driver's side.

Probably because if you get rear ended it has more of a chance of blowing up so they moved the tank farther forward and it was a shorter tube to run it to the side instead of to the back.

Thats not such a bad idea, just have one on each side. Then it wouldn't matter which side your S.O. was sitting on you could make them fill it up.

Actually I think it was probably because if your license plate frame spring broke the plate would hang down and become unreadable.

Though I could be wrong.

I like it because you don't have to worry about hitting your door on those pipes and other crap they have. You can pull up close and not have to worry.

Some of them flipped up though so then that wouldn't be a problem for those. But I've never had a car with that "feature" so I have no idea.

i think it's good to have them on both sides, more efficient if people go the right way in the gas-stations.....but no, some people can't wait for their designated side, so they go the wrong way and screw the whole system up.....if they were all on the same side, it'd take up more space at the stations, because people are stupid and dn't feel like following directions if they can get ahead by 2 minutes.....stpuid people

Behind the plate is where it's at. And since I can't pump my own goddamn gas, it's fun to laugh at the punk kids that can't find my filler! :p:beer:

I had my camera, and was about to ask him if I could take a picture, but he had gotten in his car, and was impatiently waiting for someone to finish pumping their gas. He was also blocking the path for the other car to leave, since it was facing the wrong way, due to the fuel filler being on the wrong side. I decided not to bother him, because I was just going to take the pics for laughs later anyway. I could see he was going to be getting even more frustrated in a few minutes.

I'd like to know, whose bright idea is it, to put the filler on the passenger side? Makes no sense to me. It requires you to drive against flow of traffic at the pump. You have to walk all the way around the car from the door you climb out of. It's hard to watch the pump, if you decide to get back in while it's filling. WTF is the point?

you shouldnt get back in your car to begin with. you can get statically charged and cause a fire. I personally like it on the drivers side anyway, its just closer. Is there a flow of traffic at the pump? whenever i go its a bunch of idiots going every which way/

Passenger side, it gives more door clearance for the driver to get out while being able to park closer to the pump. Although the ones with it under the plate are pretty sweet too.

I remember one customer who had a Jag with the two tanks. We had to be SO careful not to drip on the thing. Same with the Stingrays.

I'd like to know, how GD close you have to pull up to the pump, to worry about hitting your door on something? Sheesh!

As far as getting in your car and causing static; boy, I'm worried! When it's zero degrees, and the pump filter is clogged, and pumping slowly, I'm climbing back in the damn car!

I've seen my favorite gas station have lines to get at the pumps. Seems to me, everyone is lined up to pull on the right side of the island, so I'm not sure how people with fillers on the wrong side handle that.
