Poll: Existence of alien life

Call it blind faith 😉 but I am convinced that there is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe. There are potentially billions of solar systems, each fostering the possibility of being able to sustain life as we know it. I would not be surprised at all if there is a planet or body somewhere that harbors lifeforms more intelligent than humans. The scale of the universe is so vast and so large that I think it is very close-minded to think that the Earth is the only place that has life. Even Mars has evidence of harboring life (extremely simple forms) at one point. What do you think?

With the universe being as vast as it is, I would have to believe the universe is, as Carl Sagan put it, "Teeming with life."
It would be arrogant to think that of all the life in the universe, we are the only specie to become so advanced.

Where is the neutral choice? Or the "likely" and "unlikely" choices? I cannot logically pick yes(highly likely), or no (highly unlikely) because there is no proof either way.

Logic? This is about beliefs. 😉

How about this: if we had the technical ability to survey the entire universe for intelligent life, what would be your best guess of the results?
 
I hope it exists, I believe it does, but with the way the question was worded, in such a factual manner, anybody who doesn't vote "I have no idea, cannot say with certainty" is a moron.

That about sums up my thoughts on it.

I don't know how someone could honestly think that there *couldn't* be any other life.

Why would the inability to go faster than light keep a being from traveling in space? Special relativity allows a ship traveling close to the speed of light to circumnavigate the universe (well, as we presently know it) well within a human's lifetime.

I'm looking for instinctal responses. Of course, we don't know the truth about alien life, but it's interesting to see what people think is true.

When I say "space travelling", I don't mean there are aliens so advanced that an armada of starships is going to show up one day at Planet Earth. I meant are there aliens intelligent enough to leave their home planet, travel in space and colonize on another within their own solar system or wherever they can get to within the limits of physics? Humans, obviously, have experienced space travel already, but we are still "stuck" here on Earth.

I didn't want to get too exacting since human intelligence circa 2002 is different than human intelligence circa 1002, for instance.

Sure, it seems very likely that there is life 'out there', but we can't make any predictions about how advanced these lifeforms are.

Actually we can make all the predictions we want. We just can't be sure if we are right.
 
I think there exists life on other planets. As someone already stated, if we were the only ones, it would be an awfully big waste of space (Carl Sagan?). But if they were space fairing peoples out there, why wouldn't they drop us a line to see evolution in the process or something or just to say hi. And if you are one of those "they have visited us", why has it always been out in the country and not inside a major city?

That would be more like making (educated) guesses. I was actually referring to reliable predictions, thus based on some information.
