The game is legendary for essentially establishing the FPS as a genre. I didn’t play the originals much back in the day as I was more into Marathon, but when played them a few years ago, I liked the Plutonia levels the best.

My favorite is Doom 3 and I really liked both expansion packs as well. The level design, atmosphere, monsters, and guns are really great:

I haven’t tried the latest installment yet.

I love that your poll has TNT and Plutonia in it. I'm still partial to Doom 1.

Doom 2 for me. we played the heck out of it on LAN with 2 Pentiums. one of my friends was dominating us without breaking a sweat because he was the first guy to use a mouse/kb combination, his turning speed and strafing was so much faster that us.

Simple enough for me, the right answer is All of Them, except Doom 3 and the new one.

My favorites, however, will always be Final Doom, Doom 64 and Doom 2.

I voted Doom 2 in your list.

doom 2 ... I still remember being a computer sales person (computer city) jantzen beach portland oregon. They had a huge display with a chainsaw ripping it up in the gaming section. Fun stuff.... Tho, I think Far Cry had the biggest change in gaming for me.

Doom (specifically, The Ultimate Doom). My #2 favorite game of all-time. Doom 2 just doesn't have the memories/nostalgia that the original does, considering I didn't get into it until later in my life.

I remember being sick for a week when I was about 9 or 10 years old. My brother's friend let me borrow his 32x along with his copy of Doom. Great times. I still play through it (Doom95, not the 32x version) occasionally. I'm sort of ashamed to admit I've never fully beaten Doom 2 or Final Doom, but they're both excellent games as well. If you get tired of playing, just type in a few cheats and go to town. :D

I'd give almost anything for an enhanced remake of The Ultimate Doom. Keep the mechanics exactly the same, but just update the graphics a bit.

It's been too long for me to remember what playing Doom 2 was like, but I do remember getting to the final boss. I played the first in recent years, but gameplay-wise it pales in comparison to more modern FPS games. Doom 3 also pales in comparison to HL2 for the same reason. I haven't played the new Doom game yet. No idea about TNT, Plutonia or Lost Mission.

Quake 1 will always have a fond place in my heart though, there were levels in that where one could really let rip and try to take on everything at once.

Just install a modern source port (GZDoom or Doomsday), drop in the WADS (DOOM.WAD, DOOM2.WAD, PLUTONIA.WAD, TNT.WAD) then if required, add the relevant HD texture pack. Example screenshots : Original vs Source Port + HD).

The same Source Ports also work for other Doom-Engine games (Heretic, Hexen & Strife) too (drop the HERETIC.WAD, HEXEN.WAD, HEXDD.WAD, etc, into the same folder). For those unaware, there are also Plutonia 2 and TNT 2 (Revilution) WADs.

I chose doom 2016 but i liked doom 3 a lot more when it comes to the environment and the ambiance. It was more scary and i was really desperate to survive. Every time i heard those hell spells, i was fully on edge to attack. Hairs in the back of my neck raising up. If i get such a thrill in a game, then that game is great for me. With doom 2016 i just came in the game ready to open a can of whoopass. Doom2016 looks fantastic, but it was more of a game like the first 8 bit doom. Just guns blazing...

Who would pick the third game? I played that after playing Far Cry and hated it so much i never finished it. What a bad game it was, you had to move past areas to trigger monsters popping out behind you, that was a sad excuse of a game, pretty, but bad game.

Doom 2 because of multi-player. We had a Doom server set up in the office. Nothing finer than sending a rocket up your boss' backside. :D

What one could see of Doom 3 was pretty nice but it was way too dark for enjoyable play. The imps jumping out of closets got old. It was my least favorite of the Doom series.

I didn't care for Doom 4's mosh pit style combat. I thought Doom 1 and 2 were more interesting for IA. Also, Doom 2 had the CTF mod, reaperbot mod, and the grappling hook mod which combined to create awesome single player and multiplayer games. The Doom Air mod was also lots of fun.

Now you mention it, i used the duct tape mod in doom 3 to tape a flashlight to my gun. :)
That was indeed the only bad thing about the game. No flashlight mounted on a gun.

Nice, thanks! I'll check those out. I never played much of Heretic or Hexen, but those probably deserve a playthrough.

BTW, for anyone who likes the Doom series, definitely pick up Masters of Doom. It's an incredible read and really gives some good narrative behind the process that went into making Doom.

Doom 2 for me. We used to take down all the networks bandwidth at BMG playing this on the net. Good times.

Doom1/2, I never owned them but would go to work with my father where we would get everyone in the office playing together in LAN. That was my first real MP experience and we did it a lot. We followed Doom with Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior and Quake before moving on to Red Alert and away from shooters. That was the golden age of PC gaming.

you should grab the BGF Edition of Doom 3. That's a lot of fun. You get all the expansion packs that way.

I always wanted to play the sequel of doom 3.
In the end of doom 3 ,
the demon has the head of the doctor on his tongue.
There seems to be more storyline but i never was able to get that expansion pack.
I will have a look.

edit:
Well, i bought the doom3 bfg edition for 4.99 E.
Now i can finally play: resurrection of evil.
Thank you for the heads up. :)

I only remember playing the first 2. The 2nd was my favorite of the 2. When 3 came out, I was too into Far Cry to care to play it.

It was doom 2 for me on my parents 486. I used to try and use the double barrel shotgun as much as possible. That and a lot of strafing.

Didn't have a PC until the late 90s and even then it could barely run Unreal Tournament. My first Doom game was Doom 3 and I still regard that as the best even though my buddy and I had some really heated discussions about it. He kept saying it was a bad game because you couldn't see anything and had to turn the gamma/brightness to max just to see and once you did that it was like the entire facility was outside during noon. I convinced him to play the last half of the game only at night by himself with the brightness/gamma at the normal levels. I think I got a phone call around 11pm and he said he was going to uninstall the game the moment he found his mouse (pinky snuck up on him and he threw his mouse across the room).

I played Doom 3 on the XBox because my PC couldn't handle it at the time, but that was the first and only game to make me actually drop my controller. Playing the BFG Edition on my PC during the daylight years later felt like a whole different game.

You are welcome! :D

I love Doom 3 even though Doom 2016 is a great game. I wanted another survival-horror game but I still enjoyed Doom 2016.

I used to play Doom 3 in my bedroom with my 5.1 sound system at 1:00 AM and being the only person in the house. It would creep me out so much I had trouble sleeping.
