POLL: Does anyone else here have lucid dreams?

Almost every night. Due to the frequency, I have ridiculous levels of control over the dream universe. Neo has nothing on me. :D

Edit - Lucid dreaming is where you are aware of the fact that you are dreaming, and can exercise some manner of control over your dream. The degree of control varies from simply conscious awareness ("living the dream") and can build up over time to deity-like proportions (last dream I was shotputting cars on a freeway :D)

I can only remember a few in my whole life.
You're lucky M4H that would be pretty cool.
Whether I'm running from demons, driving a car the dream would end up with me and the last 5 years playmates in bed.

Yeah, sometimes. For a little while there, i was pretty good at it... then when i started to lucid dream, i would actually get sleep paralysis. That freaked me out for a bit. But now i'm back to lucid dreaming, but it happens very rarely.

I think lucid dreaming doesn't involve control over what happens but rather awareness that you are dreaming. In any case I've had both

Once you're aware that you're dreaming (you become lucid), then you do have control over your dreams.

I have control over some of my dreams but I wish I could get rid of the dream where I am pissing. It always happens when I need to take a leak. I can't seem to link this to a lucid thought of waking up and going to the bathroom. Instead I dream of pissing. :p

My dream from last night of laying on the beach in a speedo and then swimming in the calm Florida ocean was a semi-lucid dream. I didn't get the blue speedo part of my dream but I guess that's the non-lucid part. I have no desire to wear a swimsuit like that. I like comfy loose shorts on the beach. I think about swimming there a lot and that's the lucid part.

I used to have a problem with sleep paralysis. I would be semi-conscience. I could see everything around me, but I couldn't move. No matter how hard I tried to wake myself up, I couldn't do it. It was a rather terrifying experience. I think I grew out of it though as I haven't experienced it in several years, at least not to my recollection.

Bingo. Just like The Matrix. Once you realize you're dreaming, it's open season for chaos and confusion. :)

My trigger is my watch. Notice how in a dream, you never seem to know what time it is? I consciously check my watch all the time when I'm awake, so when I'm dreaming and check it, I notice when it's seriously out of whack (ie five seconds becomes two hours) and that's my cue to start messing with reality. :D

Did you ever "learn" somewhere to do this?

Because I seriously have major problems with reality in dreams, wack §hit happens in my dreams... like fish swimming in air, people walking in the sky, I've even found myself eating inanimate objects (marbles, wood) and I've completely thought it was normal until I wake up.

EDIT: cuz i mean seriously, i check my watch sometimes in real life and I notice 2 hours seems like 5 seconds (whoa i've been playing CS for 5 HOURS?!?!)

I HATE lucid dreams, once you wake up the feeling of dissapointment can REALLY get to you when you know you've got a whole day of school ahead of you. Thankfully those almost completely went away after I was about 16. I still get them every once in a while, but it's very rare and usually very short.

You can "train" yourself to do it. It doesn't happen instantly of course, but over time you start to realize the signs of a "dream world" and can clue in quickly.

The hardest part is not snapping yourself fully awake when you realize "This is a dream" because your body will attempt to mimic the movements your mind makes. Not a good thing if you have a bedmate. :p

Like my watch trick, try to find a "reality trigger" to quickly verify any suspicions you have. Time works well because of its disjointed nature in dreams. Fire also tends to behave abnormally in dreams. If you carry a lighter, flick it and see if the flame is still there when you release the safety.

Re your edit: Well, yeah. I've had that happen too. :p This is more of a "check watch when you leave your room, check when you hit the kitchen" kind of thing. :D

No, but I have night terrors. Waking up screaming, running around because I think something is after me. It was really embarassing in college. My roommates woman slept over every night, and I'd talk in my sleep, and one night I jumped down from the top bunk because I thought rats were in my bed. Another time, I woke up standing with the doorknob in one hand, and the fan in the other...I had dreamt that my RA ordered everyone to bring their fans into the hallway. Weird crap...

Reminds me of The Simpsons episode where Homer has to go to school with Bart and he has a night terror: "Ahh! Pirahnas!

All the damn time, sort of.

I have something like early onset REM, so I start dreaming before I fall asleep.

Just about everynight, I see someone sitting in my chair, or a friend walk in the door, or a huge rat, or something weird. I can even sit up in my bed and look straight at my chair and it still looks like somone is sitting in it (it is about 5" away from me). The only way to make it go away is to get up and walk over to the chair and when I get real close whatever it is that was there disappears :p

So, I know that I am dreaming, but I actually don't have very much control over it.

Only two, that I am aware of.

The first one was awesome...I was just walking around. Then, when I realized I was dreaming, I took off and started flying!

The second time, everything was really going well. I was really happy...too happy, because I started thinking about it, and realized it couldn't be true, which caused me to immediately wake up! :|

Edit: Another common occurance is, right as I am falling asleep, I am skateboarding, and then I fall backwards. Right before I hit the ground, I wake up, 'hitting' my bed.

Funny story: I often talk in my sleep. One time, back in senior year of high school, I went on an overnight skiing trip. We stayed in a church; the girls slept upstairs in the main hall, and the guys slept downstairs in the basement, packed in pretty close together. I fall asleep...I wake up with all the lights on, everybody looking at me. Apparently, I thought aliens were trying to abduct me, so I started yelling and screaming, which woke all the guys up.
