I used to have a problem with sleep paralysis. I would be semi-conscience. I could see everything around me, but I couldn't move. No matter how hard I tried to wake myself up, I couldn't do it. It was a rather terrifying experience. I think I grew out of it though as I haven't experienced it in several years, at least not to my recollection.

Wow, I thought I was the only one this happened to! I have asked people and they all look at me like I am a freak. I am totally aware of everyhting around me, and I feel like I can see, but my eyes are closed and I can't move. It totally freaks me out, and I have to really concentrate on breathing, to assure myself I am alive. Eventually I manage to get up, or somoene comes into the room etc, and it awakens me.

This is why ihave such a fear of general anastesia... I am afarid it's going to be like this and there will be nothing I can do.

Happens to me sometimes too, although it hasn't happened in a while. Scary.

I remember once I was walking around my house and the weirdest things would happen like a pencil eraser would actually make a pencil line. The electric razor only worked unplugged and mentally thinking, this isnt right but accepting it anyway.

Still not as bad as my deja vu moments where I can remember in great detail the next 5 minutes in perfect detail.

This is strange, I've got that deja vu stuff too, thought I never could "see" 5 minutes, I believe 1-2 minutes at most...

Usually when I'm in light sleep. I can sometimes control the dream when I know Im dreaming and don't want to wake up yet. Its cool. I remember being able to fly and kungfu fight off giant monsters. In one dream, I was watching my dead corpse on the sidewalk of my elementary school, then knowing I was dreaming, I made myself come back to life again. Wierd huh? The neat thing is once you figure that you're dreaming, you can control it. Just have to keep in mind that you're dreaming when wierd things happen around you.

Check out some of the links in the thread. I actually bookmarked them so I'll list them for you :

http://www.lucidity.com/

There's lots of valuable information on that site and I plan on starting some of these techniques. Presently, I rarely remember any of my dreams since I don't get enough sleep. Time to change that!

In most of my dreams, I tend to morph from 3rd to 1st person constantly. For example, at first I can watch stuff happening just like a movie, but then suddenly i'll be the main guy running around and doing whatever, then suddenly i'll switch back to 3rd person, and on and on. It's like a game where you play the character but watch cut scenes. This happens to me all the time.

I had these quite often a few years ago; I've maybe had one in the past 3 years or so.

I don't know about you two, but when this happened to me, I stopped breathing. I would be lying somewhere and looking around, then all of a sudden I started suffocating. Good thing though was that the suffocation led me to wake up, so these bouts only lasted maybe about a minute or two max.

I didn't even know this had a name. I get it from time to time, and it's pretty much like clovergirl described. Can't do anything, yet perfectly aware of your surroundings. Although I've found with effort I can talk, but not very loudly. It's a scary thing, and it used to freak me as well. Now though it's not so bad, as I've found that willpower is sufficient to wake you up. Just need a lot.

I also lucid dream, and I can 'cause' them to happen. But it's more of a merging of states between waking and sleeping, it nearly always happens when I'm taking a nap. It sounds similar to what Datalink7 gets, but I get more control in my dreams :)

I've only had one in my entire life...it was weird, because i was dreaming, but the whole time i knew that i was asleep on the couch and that if i needed to, I could wake up. Also, I remember reading about the NovaDreamer a long time ago, but i never had the money to buy one, so i'd really like to know how that works out for you.
