[Poll]Do You Use Windows Update?

If you run Windows and you don't keep your system up to date you're retarded.

Or possibly just ignorant. 🙂

I use Automatic Updates, but choose which updates get downloaded and then installed.

Gives me more control and faster and less buggy then Windows Update.

Anybody know why Windows Update takes forever to scan the system?

Not enough options. I could choose any of the 3...

1. Yes - at home auto download but manual apply
2. No - at work use a WSUS server
3. Laptop & Server are both Linux

I check manually from time to time .. I refuse to just blindly let ms send an auto update
and install it, wthout first knowing what it is and deciding if I need / want it

Why not set it to download but not automatically install? Why go through the hassle of remembering to check periodically?

I use Microsoft Update because I find the fact that it encompasses all of their products to be very useful. And I don't think the "privacy" issue is much of a problem since all of my machines are legally licensed.

Of course but manual, not automatic.

Yeah, I set it to be notified about new updates, and then I download them from windowsupdate.com after reading up a bit what's in the updates.

I have automatic updates turned off and visit the website on patch tuesdays.

As the title says do you use Windows Update

I have auto update notification completely turned off and check on patch Tuesdays, using the 'custom' install method only. And I also read what little info there is accompanying each patch. Before I do any patching I do a True Image. I wait two days after patching, then I delete the $Uninstalls$.

Anyone who blindly installs any and all updates available without knowing what they are for or what they do is retarded.

Why? You already trust MS pretty much implicitly by running their software, running slightly newer versions of that software doesn't change that.
