I decide what gets installed on MY hardware, not MS.
If it shows up in the High Priority section of WU/MU, it pertains to you. If you aren't using WU/MU to download updates manually so that you can easily figure out what updates you need, you're a masochist.Automatic is just plain wrong for me, it checks for updates regardless of what you're doing and downloads them on it's own ...there's just something wrong with letting it do that beyond your control
Why? It doesn't install them for you unless you tell it to. I don't see what is beyond your control here.Automatic is just plain wrong for me, it checks for updates regardless of what you're doing and downloads them on it's own ...there's just something wrong with letting it do that beyond your control

I check updates on the second Tuesday every month when they are now exclusively released. I download and install most of them, as long as they pertain to me. I image in case there is an unforseen problem with a particular update ...it's happened before i.e. WGA Notification and the mandatory reboot "malicious software" check.

I disable auto updates on every program that wants to do it for me. I'll do it when I want to do it ...I own the computer!
...Automatic updates is fine for people that aren't as actively involved in their computers and/or simply don't care.

Sorry, if you've installed Windows you've pretty much given up that priviledge. And AU only installed updates for things that are already installed, other things like their AntiSpyware crap are optional anyway.
