I haven't seen my friend Eric in 8 months he called me up and wanted to come hang out at my house and go see Time Machine later. We agreed he should pick up our mutual friend Matt whom I have not seen in 1.5 years. Anyway they showed up at my house before I got home from work, my wife and mother-in-law were there. Eric brought Matt along with two of his friends from the city. I'd met them before but did not know them real well, all was cool. I was going to grab a bite to eat, my mother-in-law was going to watch the kids and my wife and I were going to head out to the movie.
Well it comes to my attention that one of the guy's Eric brought with him has gone out to his car and is sitting out there smokin' a bowl. In front of my house. The other guy goes out to join him. They're gone for half an hour and show no signs of coming back in.... At this point I tell Eric, "Maybe we should do this another night. I want to see you and Matt but to be honest I don't want to hang out with anyone who would come to my house and do what they've done. You and Matt are welcome to come over anytime but don't bring those guys with. If you need a ride give me a call and I'll come get you." At this point feeling my irritation and being embarrased he left.
Here's the deal, I smoked up plenty in high school and college but quit some time ago. I don't give a rat's ass that they're smoking up. But (and it's THE but) These two a$$holes came to my house, rejected mine and my wife's hospitality and disrespected my mother-in-law. If anyone had realted this story to me I would have said "why didn't you kick the fvckers out?". I will not be made a hypocrite by anyone... I really had no choice but to kick them out.
I've known Eric since I was 16, we used to be very close. It's upsetting to find that I've grown away from him and changed in a way he seemingly does not understand and can not relate to. Such is the doom of responsibility.
Personally I feel there was nothing else I could have done. Perhaps I am seeking a little validation. What do you think.
