You might have thought that herbal tobacco is safe. Well, it does not contain nicotine so that reduces the chances of getting heart disease, but there will still be tar in the smoke which can damage your lungs.
Most smokers are aware of the dangers of smoking. They may think that they have a right to smoke; after all, it is not against the law. Perhaps it is not so simple. When a smoker ends up in hospital needing treatment for emphysema, or lung cancer, their treatment costs money. The National Health Service is paid for out of our taxes. Their disease costs us money.

Yeah, and illegal aliens cost us quite a substantial amount in health care costs also of which they pay nil.

I don't smoke, drink or anything like that. I'm a runner so I even avoid soda and fast food(well, except Taco Bell. I'm addicted to Grilled Stuft Burritos)

do you like cancer, bad breath, smelly clothes, shortness of breath, heart disease?![]()
break the habit and quit smoking, it doesn't look cool.
and most of all, i don't need to inhale all the secondhand smoke
I probably have a different reason for smoking then anyone else. If I really need to stay up and I'm dead tired, one cigar will keep me up for about 10 hours. I get huge niccotine cravings for about a week after, but I fight them and I'm good. Caffiene in drink form just does not work for me, and caffene in pill form scares the hell out of me because the last (and only) time I've done it, I could feel my heart beating through my chest and could hear the beat in my ears. I thought I was going around scared that I was about to have a heart attack.

I wonder if it's more expensive to treat a smoker dying of cancer for a year than to keep someone who dies of old age in a home for 10. I bet in some cases the smokers are saving health care money. Does anyone have any statistics?

Social smoking for me .... it's sometimes a break for us from a party and just sit outside and relax for a little bit. I only smoke when I go back home to Austin though.
