I've had one for a few years and the more I use it the more I hate people. It's an incredibly good tool for attention whoring, which is how the majority of my "friends" use it (e.g. way too many status updates about crap, irregularly posting on others' facebook, as if they are just screaming in a room to be heard the loudest). I often go on friend-killing sprees (figuratively). I just went on another one and am struggling to know why I keep anybody except normal family/actual friends on it.

Anyway, answer!

After much persistent goading in college, I signed up for an account.
I didn't do a whole lot with it, and after college, the main reason I'd sign in was because someone here in OT would post that Facebook had been messing around with the privacy defaults again.

Account deleted.

I have one, I rarely, rarely, rarely use it. I have no pictures/media, and no wall. I only have it in the event someone needs to contact me and has only my name.

no i dont use and never would use facebook, twitter etc..., i dont want personal stuff out there and i dont have time for that either

Have one and use it often. Friends and I usually coordinate meetups through it. Much easier to have one thread of posted messages on a medium everyone already has then coordinate phone calls and whatnot. Also nice for keeping up with old friends who have moved away. I have 248 "friends" whom are all at least acquaintances, and many of them post interesting/entertaining status updates and whatnot. Bottom line, I find it nice to be connected.

As for privacy, I don't post anything I wouldn't want other people seeing. What a concept.. 😛

Given that a large portion of ATOT are introverted computer nerds and ol.. excuse me "mature" nerds who didn't grow up with the internet (and thus aren't as naturally wired as the mid 80s-90s generation) you see a lot of derision towards it here.

i think if you're 25 and younger, you probably do have one unless you're antisocial.

when my friends were looking for roommates in college, if you didn't have a facebook, it was like "ok, then you probably are a social outcast." i'm not saying you need to use it to publicize to the world, but if you're in college now and afraid to even have an account, then perhaps you're one of those WoW nerds or something who have no friends. shrug.

Yep - I mainly keep it to a close circle of people I know who live nearby and far away. I purposely mis-spell my name so it doesn't show up on any searches...

I don't judge based on facebook, but this is the stereotype.

Pretty typical behavior for a freshman in college is to friend everyone you talk to for more than 5 minutes. 😛

Had one a couple years ago to catch up with highschool classmates from back in the day. Short time later realized I still didn't care what the assholes were doing.

It is more of a "Christmas Letter" type of bragging place than anything...
that said, it's a great way to extend invitations, organize get togethers, and i like it for that.

I have one but only go on it every few months. If I want to talk to someone I'll contact them through my phone. Plus I'm not famous so who the hell cares what I'm doing at every moment.

Facebook is nothing more than a form of communication. If the only people you know use it for attention whoring, find new friends.

A form of communication? If I wanted someone to contact me, they'd have my number. If you haven't seen me in awhile, it's for a reason. Facebook is the stupidest shit I've ever seen. Just a bunch of people that think their life is so important they have to post it for everyone to see. It's all about, "check out what I did on vacation or look at my kids." Just a little FYI, you're not that important and no one gives a shit.

I remember when blogging was first introduced. I said to myself, that is the stupidest shit I've ever seen. Do people think their life is so interesting they need to let everyone know what they are doing? Apparently so. 🙄

I have an account. I use it to a) see what everyone else is still up to and b) put my contact info out there to people I once knew. You will never see me participating in any apps or groups or any of that nonsense. It is a good tool for casual communication, but not much else.
