Sometimes it takes me longer to go through those things. I hate it when something goes wrong and the cashier chick has to come over and fix the problems. (unless she's hot)

i use the things all the time. had them in the HEB stores in austin for a few years, and people knew how to use them pretty well there. i get to h-town and the HEBs did not have them. after a few months they put them in. in austin the vegetable section has scales that weigh your goods and print a barcode with the proper price. in houston those scales aren't there. so no one uses the self check out machine because no one wants to look up vegetable codes. since i don't buy fresh vegetables much it isn't a bother and i can just zip through the empty line.

I wouldn't mind them if they had a nice looking chick in the booth to checkout ;)

Fvck no. Why the hell should I pay the same price so that I can do more work, and the company can lay off half thier workforce?

If they want me to be a checker, they can pay me the $17/hour wage that a checker gets paid. Otherwise, I want a checker to deal with it.

Were do checkers make $17/hour? That's more than I make in IT.

Seriously, I have never heard of a checker making that kind of money.

its a minimum wage job here in mass.

eh, well when they have enough of them, they save your time though. i could care less about the cashier. in some states supposedly they have people who pump your gas i think.. or was that japan. thats just something i can do without too. no point supporting obsolete jobs.

People don't serve your gas over there? Wow... ;)

Yeah that commercial is most definitely showing RFID technology. You can't scan a UPC through clothing. I do think RFID will basically be the end for cashiers.

I liked it, but my local supermarket took it out since people stole from the system so much easier.

CA. welcome to the land of overpaid workers who went on strike for months because they didn't want to pay for health insurance, but that's another thread.

i like it WHEN THERE'S NO LINE. i also check out who's using it - if it looks like a stupid girl (and there are a lot of them...) i try to avoid them. i'm a pro at using these things, but if it looks like there are idiots in line i avoid it.

I think New Jersey?

Here in Oregon, it is illegal to pump your own gas. It always seems strange to me when I travel and have to actually get out of my car and pump my own gas.

The only place I've tried the self checkouts is at Fred Meyer and it was super easy and fast. Only problem I've ever had was when my kids were leaning on the table and threw off the weight.

I find about half the people at my local Wal-Mart who try to use them can't figure it out - so they have to get a live cashier to void everything and ring them up manually. Most of the time it's faster just to use the regular lanes.

It cuts costs on the seller's end, but don't think for a second you'll see lower prices.

Since when do checkers make $17/hr? Hell, I'll go apply myself for that money.
