Where's the option for me? (I'm not, but how do you know that someone here isn't a millionaire, a million isn't as much as it used to be).

Seriously though, I know at least four, mostly riding around in S 500 or S600. The fourth one owns a Maybach, S 600, Ferrari F430, older (the one before this generation) E class 230 (i think) and some kind of crap van, that I don't konw what he uses for. He also owns the old SL, but I don't know what engine.

edit: all above mentioned families are indian :p

edit 2: and my (still to be) new neighbor is one of the richest men here.

I know several. Believe it or not I was one for 2 days on paper during the go-go days of Internet/Tech stocks. My stock account crossed the 7 figure mark for 2 days back in March 9 and 10 of 2000. Then the bubble popped and I was left holding the bag. :( If only had I cashed out... Hindsight is 20/20.

not anymore. my uncle and grandfather had both been investing and playing the stock market for a while several years ago, and each had built up a bit over a million dollars at one time. my dad told them to put some somewhere that wasnt so volatile, something that they could hold it in....they didnt, and a few months later the market went down and they each lost an enourmous amount of money.

My parents worked very hard to get where they are to both retire at 50. They put me through college, then cut the cord. It's nice to have a career now and buy THEM dinner when I see them. Parents deserve to be appreciated, especially on days like today. Happy Father's Day all Dad's out there

EDIT: Added the Beer. :)

Probably because a millionaire has better things to do with his/her leisure time.

Not when he's stuck in the home office most days doing paperwork and babysetting his employees. :p

Or waiting for the GF to drag her ass out of bed so we can go riding. :D

I know quite a few, most are people I worked with. They retired with nice pensions. I know 2 people who hit the NJ lottery though.

millionaires are not that special anymore, esp in area's where the average home prices are approaching $500k.

I think the new 'millionaire' is one with at least $5 million of liquid assets. There are a lot more millionaires now that cannot touch their money easily and living modest lives. They will be forced (not that it's a bad thing) to refinance or sell off what they have in order to live off of it.

My dad > 50 million (now that I've read what they are defining millionaire by)
My uncles each >50 million
My grandpa >50 million

and a majority of my dads friends are between 5-50 million.

Just for the curious..

My dad owns a lumber company that nets about 15 million a year profit, the land it's on is worth ~20 million, the house is worth about 1.5.

My uncles are all developers, own a lumber company as well, own 2 golf courses and 500 acres of land in an urban area, as well as several properties.

My grandpa is an architecht, owns 2 apartment buildings and several condos..
