I remain VERY interested in this topic as i do - eventually - expect to do this upgrade. in the meantime. 'pardon me' if i remain a single GPU owner with an interest in multi gpu solutions. . . . i am constantly looking for best band-for-buck and do not feel unqualified to help people here in Video.

That's one of the most interesting things that have come out of multi-gpu configs so far-- the price-performance equation has often been thrown on its ear.

Obviously right now isn't the best time to buy a high-end gpu solution with new cards around the corner, but if we rewind a month or two, we see $500 single-card solutions being offered by nV and ATI. Then, you have the <$600 7800GT SLI solution that performs better than all the high-end cards, and is either just a little bit more expensive (compared to the x1800xt at that time, as well as the 256GTX) or cheaper (512GTX).

Price is the obvious obstacle for multi-gpu (just as it is with any high-end single card solution). There are other obvious ones too that get mentioned a lot-- extra heat, noise, and power usage, as well as the need for the proper mobo. There are some other obstacles that I don't think enough buyers consider-- what monitor they use (i.e. being res-limited on an LCD) and what games they play.

With games these days, you're gonna get a whole lot more performance from spending your money on an A64 3000+ with cheapie ram and SLI 7800GT (~$800), than you will from an A64 4000+ with super-fast ram and a single 7800GT (~$800). (Granted a faster processor will help in many other apps, but I'm speaking mainly about gaming here.)

In other words, you think everybody here gets their cards free from NVIDIA and ATI.
I never said that, you did.

Rollo is free to explain why he has no receipt while claiming to pay for his cards. He brought up the "your opinion doesn't count unless you paid" argument... I am just keeping him honest.

I don't have my receipt either, or at least I have no idea where it is. Does this mean I got my 7800GTX free and didn't even realize it? Seriously dude, you have to get off that issue.

Employing this logic would mean never buying anything. Ultimately, if you're going to forward the idea of being able to simply play games, at the resolutions and eye-candy levels that are important to you, you're going to have to plant your feet and pull out your wallet. There's nothing "obvious" about constantly second-guessing every aspect of the industry.

No I don't have to get off this issue. Rollo raises it every single time... he claims to have paid for his SLI videocards and maintains that no one else is entitled to an opinion because they haven't purchased an SLI setup.

I claim he hasn't paid for one either.

He needs to put up or shut up.

Not like there's a warranty on the left over engineering samples anyway, so there's not much reason to keep receipts for them.

His "logic" overlooks my EVGA 6600GT SLI and Leadtek 6800NU SLI anyway, unless he thinks I was gifted those as well.

I think by anybody's definition I count as having "paid for SLI" before.

Sigh. What a wasteland.

I look through this thread and see supposed "intelligent members" throwing poop like a pack of chattering monkeys, and I can only shake my head in wonder.

Oh well. When I wake up tomorrow, I'll still be me, you haters will still be you. I know which option I prefer. 😉
Stop calling names. Post up a scan of the receipt for your videocards which you proudly claim to have paid for and I will drop it. Until we see the receipt we are forced to conclude you are a member of AEG/Nvidia's marketing division.

If you have any doubt about the videocard I claim to own I can post up MY receipt.

The ball is very much in your court and no amount of namecalling is gonna bail you out of this one.

Cool, the old guilty until proven innocent law.

Let's turn the tables like how it should be. Does anyone have any evidence that Rollo was given his cards?

I didn't think so.

Well, then his claims of PAYING for those cards is a lie. A documented lie.

Who says "obtained" instead of purchased when they paid for something!?! 😛

Looks like Rollo just has to live with the "AEG/Nvidia marketing tool" brand on his forehead.

True dat- and you'll note I didn't say "Yippie! I got FREE 7800GTXs at the launch party" - getting those cards cost me a fair amount of jing. (but thanks to buddy at nV for opportunity to get them that day at less than retail)

Did they take Visa when you "obtained" them?
