No option for mixed feelings. That's where I'm at. They make some good products and some bad ones, and do a lot of things I don't agree with.

I'm mixed. I loved my old Trinitron TV, and I loved PS1, and my old Sony head unit lasted like 10 years despite massive abuse.

On the other hand, root kits, and PS2 crap design, and junky speakers...I really dislike them now, hate is such a strong word for a silly electronics company.

mixed

I hate PS3s, I hate PS2s, I hate game consoles,I hate sony audio, Fontopias suck even though I have some because there's no other cheap alternative and Shures are too expensive... nevertheless $30 fontopias are not worth it, they sound like $10 headphones..

Sony Ericsson on the other hand rocks, but is also a ripoff..

SONY IS A RIPOFF..

I like their speakers... however their proprietary products and short life spans on items I have purchased frustrate and annoy me.

In the UK they're pretty neat. I've got sony equipment that's been used daily for 15 years and still works a treat. My first protable cd player ('diskman') was a sony and still works to this day. I find it good, reasonably priced equipment and can't complain. My PS2 is 5 years old and going strong.... what can I say? I've read loads of bad press about them, but until I have a bad experience I'm going to remain positive. I refuse to be a sheep and follow the slander crowd.

I do hate the proprietry Sony memory cards though...
Sony makes good quality equipment. So they get points for that. However, Sony is the king of proprietary equipment. Sony attempts to force everyone to be sheep and only buy their products. Luckilly, Sony has failed in many of these attempts.

Thus, overall, I give Sony a neutral rating.

si. their insistence on going proprietary and failing to adapt to the consumer's demand irks me.

Just about everything I have ever bought from Sony has been crap, and this goes back a long while, at least ten years now. I did buy one portable CD player about 12 years ago that was actually pretty good. That was the last thing.

I went through a couple of Sony optical drives for my computer and got burned (well actually they didn't burn and that was the problem). I have not intentionally bought a Sony product for a while - only exception would be music artists signed on with a Sony label.

That's your idea of mixed? Sounds like you pretty hate them with one exception. 😉

Anything outside of their high-end electronics nowadays is crap, plain and simple. You can find similar products without the premium pricing. The PS3 mis-information and bravado, atrocious game support for the PSP, and CD rootkit debacle are enough for me to swear them off forever. And you know what? I can't think of a single Sony product that I'll be missing.

Sony has always been overpriced "stylish" junk. At least MS gives us a decent product that hasent been hyped up as the second coming(aka betamax, memory stick, psp, ps2(they said, no pc will be able to compete with the ps2's graphics for 5 years), ps3, their "mp3 player" that played only their proprietary format.

If Sony dosent have a proprietary locked down format that screws over the customer yet, they're working on it or making something that will lock down an existing format.(aka rootkit[When wasthe last time MS Word planted spyware on your pc?])

and then jsut to screw you over, the $500 version of the PS3 cannot actually play bluray movies despite as avertised as a blu ray drive to lure in the masses. It dosent actualyl physically have HDMI output onthe $500 ps3 so you have to buy the $600 version to watch movies.

Holy Geez. The hits keep on coming from Sony. Link
The Price of the PS3 is high, but you're paying for potential.

Obviously, it's a higher-risk strategy--as all new inventions are--but if the PS3 lives up to its total potential, then I don't think anyone will be worried about Nintendo or Xbox's cheaper price.

😕

That must be some good sh!t they keep in the Sony Executive Bathrooms. They're all freaking looney.

I've had no major problems with any of their stuff I've bought.
I still have a p-72 digital camera that has been through hell and back and still works. I just picked up a cheap p-200 sony camera that works just dandy.

I really don't care if the memory stick is proprietary, the only thing I use flash memory for is my camera. I can pickup SanDisk manufactured memory stick stuff for the same general price as other flash memory.

There are sony products I would buy, and wouldn't. I've had good experience with their TV's and CD players, but their computers haven't been to kind. My parents seem to like their Digital Camera.

I've owned a Sony minidisc player, that was pretty neat too.

Sony old I liked and was willing to pay the premium. Trinitron CRT monitor/TV days.

Sony new I don't care for and will not pay premium for the brand. Sony model actually has to be priced cheaper for me to even consider.

Sony engineering is no longer the best and the company is a shell of its former self. Kind of sad how they have ruined one of the most trusted global brand name.
