*POLL* Do you hate/dislike/distrust Sony?

yeah, $ony is turning out to be a lot like Micro$oft in the consumer electronics arena - junk products, high prices, rabid marketing.
 
I hate that every Sony product I've ever owned has broken. And I hate that just about every piece of electronics that I've ever had break (other than hard drives) has been made by Sony.

Edit: All but one - my Sony receiver still works.

1. My $300 Sony DVD player died after 14 months of use. I looked up the error (C 13:00) on the Internet and found that it was a very common problem with at least a half dozen different models that causeed them to die after 18-24 months. It could be fixed by doing some soldering to fix Sony's flawed design. Fortunately for Sony they only had a 1 year warranty.

2. My wife has a Vaio that will only boot if you put pressure on a particular spot on the bottom of it with your knee. It's a pretty common problem, she found a guy who fixes just that specifi it for $150-250.

3. I don't think I need to tell anyone about the issues with PS1/PS2.
 
hate? no but i distrust them. I will NOT buy something from them if there is better or as good other brands.

I might get a PS3 when they drop a lot inprice.
 
Rootkits, BMG, overhyped, overpromised and overpriced PS3, Blu-Ray/HD-DVD wars....what's not to love?

That rootkit bs is what turned me off all of their products.

I still take my PS2 on the road to watch DVDs.
But this is ATOT so it's obvious where this thread will go.
 
I don't hate them...but I'm definitely finding less and less reason's to buy a PS3...their attitude over the whole thing doesn't help.
 
Dont hate em, but dont love em either. Stereo I got for x-mas way back in 94 still works good, and the only other sony product I owned was my old car stereo speakers.
 
In the UK they're pretty neat. I've got sony equipment that's been used daily for 15 years and still works a treat. My first protable cd player ('diskman') was a sony and still works to this day. I find it good, reasonably priced equipment and can't complain. My PS2 is 5 years old and going strong.... what can I say? I've read loads of bad press about them, but until I have a bad experience I'm going to remain positive. I refuse to be a sheep and follow the slander crowd.

I do hate the proprietry Sony memory cards though...

Sony makes good quality equipment. So they get points for that. However, Sony is the king of proprietary equipment. Sony attempts to force everyone to be sheep and only buy their products. Luckilly, Sony has failed in many of these attempts.

Thus, overall, I give Sony a neutral rating.
 
I bought one of their music CD's a while ago. The first one in ~7 years. Hello rootkit!

There's no way in Hell Sony's getting any more of MY money.
 
Not really a fan. Their car CD players/head units seem to suck. Both my bros and a buddies pretty much crapped out after 3-4 years of use, which is unacceptable IMO especially when taken care of and cleaned, they should last longer than that (especially given Sony's price premium on pretty much everything).

Yeah they got some good products like the old G400 monitors, but for the price I'd rather something else like the Samsung DiamondTron which were nearly as good for way less money. Same with their TVs, yeah they look nice, but not worth the price IMO.

And obviously their memory cards and stuff like UMDs is just plain stupid. Nice to see that Sandisk makes an excellent MemoryStick Pro Duo for cheaper and it gets better reviews than the Sony-branded ones. The PSP seems like a nice piece of equipment (friend has one) but the game selection is crap. THere's only a few good games, and UMDs are way too much $$. The only redeeming part about the PSP is modding it for emulators and whatnot, but with a v2.5 firmware I'm not sure if that can be done.
 
I've always had good experiences with them, but their proprietary memory cards and other crap has steered me into buying other products.
