Poll: Do you guys ever buy CD singles?

Back 1997 and early 1998, almost every song that was getting some airplay on the radio had a cd single, and the singles sales accounted for 50% of it's chart position on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. In January 1998, Billboard changed it's charting rules, due to the fact that singles weren't selling as well, so that a song's CD single sales only accounted for 25% of it's chart ranking. Now, today, if you look at the Billboard Hot 100, only 7 songs have a Cd Single that has been released to market. 7 Out of 100!

I have quite a few singles. I get them for the b-sides and remixes mainly (heck, I have 12 Chemical Brothers singles alone 🙂 ).

Anything I listen to would not be on a CD single. I do have a nice collection of 45 RPM records though. 😉

Most of the time, when I see a single, its anywhere from $5-7. No way in the world I'm paying that much for one song and a couple remixes of it. Its not going to happen.

I was going to vote no, I buy the album rather than the single, but I guess I do a lot of free sampling via mp3. You got me to admit it.

i bought a few a couple of times. if the rest of the album sux, i buy the singles whenever available.

If you are a big fan of a certain group, the CD singles sometimes have a rare or unreleased song as a "B-Side" (no more B-Sides since we're using CD now, but you get my drift) ... I've bought quite a few CD singles for the unreleased tracks and such ... Assuming I liked the band enough. (I own about 20 different Metallica CD Singles, since they usually released 3 or 4 of the same single with different rare songs on them).

I don't think I'd buy a CD Single unless it had something above and beyond the regular song on it though ... For that I'd just buy the entire album since CD singles can run as high as $10.00

I have over 70 Mariah Carey singles. My main reson for collecting them is to get cool/rare remixes, but I also collect them.

hah, not a chance! if i only like one song on a cd, its getting downloaded... if i like the whole cd, i'll buy it
