there is no lane rule, you made that up
Which is where most human behavior comes from anyway. The stuff we believe is "the way" inside our heads, regardless of laws.

There is no "rule" at the grocery store that you have to stick to one side or the other. I try to keep to the right when I go through because I know other people like it and it makes sense to get along with everybody there.

There is no official rule, however I usually do find myself following it. Perhaps thats because I feel like I'm driving while getting yelled at by my wife for shopping cart drifting 😛.

I always stay on the right side of the aisles. If I need something from the left side, I will do the thinking while standing on the right side, then when I am ready, I reach for the item on the left side.

On a unrelated note, I wish there was a dedicated checkout lane for checks and food vouchers only.

I couldn't give two craps what other people like. I'm usually just trying to get the hell out of there, so if it's convenient for me to push my cart down the left "lane" to get my stuff that's what I'll do.

nyah, nyah ,nyah!

I really hate when you get to the end of an aisle, and two shoppers try to enter the aisle, coming from opposite directions.

I really hate it when you have some knucklehead (or kids!!!) going real fast, and you nearly sideswipe them as you exit the aisle.

I think I need behind-the-cart anger management 😛

Yes, I stick to the right side.

It annoys me when people go really really slow with the cart, stopping in the middle of the main aisles whilst they examine each individual container or product. Granted, I move quite fast in a grocery store, but it still annoys me.

Yes, whenever possible. I do the same pretty much anywhere where there is a walkway or hallway - walk on the right side. It keeps things a bit less chaotic.

Thats what I'm talking about.
You have to deal with other people in life. So if you want to get something done quickly and easily it makes sense to work with them.
Thats probably the only reason I follow the lane "rule" at the store.
Less crashing, more moving.

I usually don't have problems with people going against the flow of traffic. It's those people who meet someone that they know and stop in the middle of an isle to have a conversation with them that get me. It's like they instantly become oblivious to the fact that there are other people around them who don't know Ethel from the bingo hall and have no interest in stopping to listen to them while they block an entire isle and discuss their favorite contestant on American Idol.

And yes I generally stick to the right side in a given lane because it seems to make sense for there to be some kind of agreed upon shopping behavior to keep people from getting in each other's way at least some of the time.

Not really, but come to think of it, I just go where I damn well please🙂. It's not like anyone else does thanks to free parking. Only takes one person to cause a traffic jam, may as well be me...

Children shouldn't be allowed in public. 😛

Yes, right side.

I though you were going to say the 12 items or less "lane rule". It pisses me off to no end when I see someone with a buggy full of groceries in the express lane when I am trying to purchase a couple of items.

Buggy. LMAO.

For the most part, yes. It annoys me when lots of people are on the 'wrong' side going against the general flow... it fvcks everything up.

Or stopped in the middle looking at items completely oblivious that people are trying to get by. :|

My wife does this. I have been unable to stop her from doing so.

Same thing happens on sidewalks, in hallways at college and in malls. I thought it was just natural to stick on the right side but it is apparent most people (around here) don't.

I find it thoroughly annoying and so I tend to shop at the grocery store during the very slow hours.

The worst is when people just leave their cart in the middle of the whole damn thing and pick something off the rack and say, "Hey Darlene would'ja come loooook at dis". Or when they have a little brat pack that they let obscure the pathways for what seems like minutes on end. You have to plant your cart there, have their 5 or 6 kids stare up at you like you're an alien, and, when the mother pulls the brood away you flash that stupid like "ohhh those silly kids", smirk at her in a manner to suggest you forgive her mistakes. Then again, like most people who do that, they are too stupid to have courtesy and say "sorry" or smile back... in fact, you'll often get a dirty look from them like you just inconvenienced their day (that is if you're even lucky enough to get them to move), they go back to picking out the best brand of hot dogs or spanking their kids in public for asking their mom to buy something ("damnit bobby-rays wes dun have enough money for that i tolja to neva pick that stuff up!" *thwack*) :|:|:|

(Yes, I'm a bitter and experienced shopper 😛)

LOL...so true.

There is no "lane rule" in a shopping store. The only people who think so are self-absorbed jackasses who feel the world needs to move at their pace or get out of their way.

I just know that a vast majority of you on this forum have freak social anxiety problems that lead you to spend as little time in public as possible.
Here is a newsflash for you, the world doesn't run on logic, it runs on people.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=buggy

First definition.

It must be a southern thing, because I have always called it a buggy. One night a friend's house I said buggy and his father laughed at me. They're from New York.

This "lane rule" doesn't matter anymore. The town's grocery store last year got in some of those super-wide carts with the kiddie compartment in the front, those just command the lanes and everyone else has to dart for cover.
