So if a bug splats on the windshield on a bright sunny day, do you hit the lights in addition to the wipers?

Usually, unless it's really light rain and the sky is still fairly bright and visibility is good.

When it's raining hard.. and driving on the highway.. I hate arseholes that don't have their lights on..
You can't even see them in your blind spot cuz of the rain...

Wipers ON Lights ON

how hard is that ?

It's the law here and it makes sense under low light... but again most people don't follow because it "inconviences them".

Kinda like how seat belts and throwing things in a trash bin and not talking on the cell phone while driving inconveniences them... sucktards.

On more than one occassion I've nearly hit people because the rain was heavy and skies dark as was their car. More than a few times I've been on highways prevalent with "Wipers On, Lights On... It's the Law" signs nearby. I hope cops start enforcing cell phone usage without handsfress more aggressively in my area. I know more than a few of my customers that admit to using cell phones while driving without a handsfree... sometimes I just wanna reach over the counter and smack them upside the head. Ok, enough rant...

I wonder if/when Honda will offer this in the Accord.

Mine does, so I do...if it's dark enough to impair visibility, the car automatically turns the lights on full instead of the 75%-ish DRLs :)

Yup. I can't understand what's so extremely difficult about putting your lights on if it's starting to get dark or raining.

Yeah, I turn the carlights on. People who don't do the same are annoying, but I get more annoyed by people who don't use their damn turn signals when switching lanes, especially on the freeway/highway!

Yes, so people can see my car better. In NJ it is also a law, however never really enforced like it should be. It's one of those tickets they give you while being pulled after getting talked down from a speeding ticket.

I don't know what NYS law actually says, but if it's a light drizzle where vision is not at all impaired, I just have my yellow lights (term escapes me at the moment) on... because it looks cooler. ;)

In the Forester, the headlights are always left on. I like daytime running lights so much better. Never have to deal with lights.

In California it's illegal to drive with jsut your parking lights on. They're parking lights, used to indicate the car is parked.

I'm in Canada and as mentioned above all our new cars have DRL's.

For those of you that say you have no choice because Daytime running lights are on already, you do know there is a difference between full running lights on, and DRL right???

DRL is usualy like 1/3-1/2 power of high beems or whatever. I know all too many ppl who think DRL is full lights, or that moving your light switch 1 click means your lights on. (Thats usualy the parking lights or whatever you wanna call them).

I never do, if people can't pay attention enough to see someone else on the road then they don't deserve to be driving.

What I've wondered is, if I'm using a product like Rain-X, which allows me to not use my wipers in the rain, is it illegal for me to not have my lights on? Technically I'm not using my wipers...

Granted, I have my lights on anyways, but I'm just curious.

I think the law is written as "-wipers on, lights on-" . So no you would not be breaking the law.
