I understand your position on the issue and I agree that any emotional involvement between the parties would constitute cheating but suppose the intent is simply to "get off"? I mean where does that put those who engage in phone sex? Is typing to someone else as bad as speaking to them voice to voice IYO?

how about having sex with your wife while imagining that you're doing heidi klum? is that cheating? how about masturbating while thinking about kelly hu? is that cheating? what if you get high and start hallucinating? would that be cheating?

When you're thinking about / acting on the person that you committed the rest of your life to.

Whether she believes the same way or not, I still will consider anything other than the spouse cheating. And, for the record, she agrees with me.

<edit>

Thanks Elita1. :) How's the baby?

<< I don't consider cybersex sex so...no. >>

I feel the same way, but when the wifey thinks you might be because you've been spending so much time lately tapping away at the keyboard(neffing and helping out in the hardware forums) it presents an issue with very polarized philosophical perspectives ;)

regardless of whether or not cybersex counts as cheating: If your wife is actually concerned that you're cheating as you spend so damn much time on the compouter, maybe it's time you spent more time with your family rather than a bunch of people oyu've never actually met before in your life.

I work from home so they get enough of me, and then some!! ;) Also, hasn't become a lingering issue between us it was just her doubt/fears/worries brought on by friends and co-workers that prompted her to speak to me about it. BTW, you telling someone else to spend less time here sounds a bit hypocritical to me ;)

I hear a lot of opinions that as long as emotions aren't involved then it is not cheating. Well what about if the guy hired a prostitute? It's a real live person and and you are getting off from it but there are no emotions involved. Personally, I don't consider it any differently. But really I could (not) care less what you define it. If my bf/husband was doing this I'd be more concerned with why he was doing it. Doesn't he have something more productive to be doing with his life? pathetic really.

Oh I was watching oprah one time and they had this guy on there that flirted with his office mate and the wife was jealous and considered it cheating and so Dr. Phil was there and they asked him if that was cheating. He defined cheating as anything you would not do in front of your wife. I think those are good words to live by.

Probably wouldn't if he were satisified with his wife. :) Something as small as a little emotional instability can lead to someone not being satisified with anything in life, including the significant other's sexual relationship. And, in the process of trying to pacify that, they hurt their significant other by looking elsewhere (like cybersex) which can eventually lead to other things like affairs. Who wants that? Honestly, nobody with a stable relationship between two people who are meant to be together :)

I know him mostly by reputation. I've seen several news programs such as Larry King, O'Reilly factor, ect... where Dr. Phil was the subject of a segment and they had various "experts" on who would critic Dr.Phil's technique and professionalism as well as his methods and the cosensus has been that he is a self agrandizing Narcisist who uses others problems to promote his self and his books. I have seen him several times on Opra and must concur with what I've heard about him ;)
