This is not meant to be a Evolution vs. Creationism debate, I'm just wondering how many people actually believe this. If you do believe it, provide proof in words that everyone can understand. What I am trying to determine is how many people will believe anything/everything that they are taught in school without any actually critical thinking. I'm not looking for links to articles that explain this, I want to hear YOUR proof. Why exactly do YOU believe it? (You can refer to articles, but don't just create a link, or cut and paste a few pages and leave it at that) Coherent thoughts and sentences would be appreciated. Something like "Dinosaur bones are found" doesn't count because you would be an idiot.

So you belive in evolution simply because of a lack of alternative theorys? That's pretty dumb.

Yes, I believe in evolution because genetic algorithms work. Creationism is a great fictional story created by man. Ever read the bible?

This IS an Evolution vs Creation thread.

Ofcourese it's evolution. Do a search about species in the Galapagos islands. Especially birds and you see how it works.

evolution isn't a proven fact but it appears to explain the differences between species far better than any other theory. you need to have something like that in the poll.

Oh, I would say it is.
No peer reviewed journal has ever published an article counter to it.

that doesn't make it proven. that just doesn't make it disproven.

What peer-reviewed journal has published an article supporting creationism?

I did read the entire thing, and it's not entirely in response to your post. It's an honest question.

These types of threads would be much more enjoyable to read if people actually did what XZeroII has recommended.

In part. Creationism isn't necessarily out of line, I would like to see the level of scrutiny applied to it that's applied to evolution as well.

Your post just helped me remember something I'd been thinking about last night.

The poll is poorly worded, as the choices indicate that you believe either evolution is "a proven fact" or that it's wrong. Evolution is a scientific theory, which means that it's the best possible current explanation given the evidence at hand.

I am so SICK of these posts. All they do is piss me off. Everyone insults each other's beliefs and it just makes me less eager to come to these boards and post. Will you people stop making posts about it? It's quite obvious there are way more people in the world that hate God and deny his existence because they have no faith and desire no obedience. If you're an atheist I think you're a fvcking idiot and I have no respect for you. How could have all this begun? The big bang theory? Where did the big bang take place if the universe had yet to be made? Where did those particles come from? If we evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?

Well people who truely think that one way of us coming about is true, pretty much get stuck in their idea and it becomes almost impossible to make them sway(some die for their beliefs, that's proof enough). Most feel offended when a counter belief is presented so if a peer journal or anyone for that matter presented a counter belief, they would most likely be attacked for it no matter how credible their story is. It's hard to argue with science and I'm sure there aren't many people who feel like taking on a battle as big as evolution. I find it quite odd that someone would blindly believe that evolution is the way we came about simply because nobody has a counter artical though. I feel that there are plenty of un explained events in evolution that make believing in a higher power just as believable. The very early stages of evolution are what stand out to me, cellular growth, adaptation and whatnot is very credible because we see new strands of the flu almost every year. The rest gets iffy, I'm not a evolution buff but from what I learned of it in highschool, there are to many randome morphing events that are suppose to explain HUGE difference's between man and ape, and between other animal's as well. For the most part I dont dont feel convinced anyone knows the full story.

Evolution is an idea that was arrived at because of available evidence.
Other "theories" (in quotes because they are NOT scientific theories) BEGIN with an established conclusion and try to find evidence to support it.
That is NOT how the scientific method works.

By saying evolution is a Theory is quite a compliment. A Theory is a group of hypotheses which have been confirmed through repeated experimental tests.
A model (e.g. the Out of Africa model for explaining the spread of modern humans) is a hypothesis with at least limited viability.
A hypothesis is a statement made before experimental work has begun.

A proven fact? Yes, pretty much. The world community has accepted evolution as a viable Theory for decades, with no serious counter-theories.
