Inkjet.

Had a laser printer too, but it was an old one, took forever to warm up, printed slowly, and toner was expensive.

the 4550s rock. We have a few of them at work. They were a pain in the butt to move around though. They weigh over 150lbs when assembled.

I have an HP 1115 at home.

Okidata 410e laser
Had it for 6 years now, maybe on its 3 or 4 th toner cartridge.
6 years ago inkjets couldn't touch a laser for speed or quality.

A 7 year old HP DeskJet 660C sits above my living room rigs. I got it along with my first PC in 1995. It still works fine for printing out text, but it's not so good at pictures anymore. I don't plan to replace it unless it stops working altogether.

If you ever run into multi-feed problems with that printer (typically if they're left idle for extended periods of time) you can pick up a kit to install a new separation pad. You can get them free from HP, or you can pick them up off of Ebay for next to nothing.

They work great, & bring a pretty decent little printer back to life.

I have a Nec Superscript 870 laser at home.

I just bought a new Phaser 7700 for work... this is seriously the best printer I have ever used... kicks the crap out of the POS HP 4550 and 8500 colour lasers... this thing does 22PPM in colour!! :)

When HP goes to a four imaging drum / no ITB print system you'll see that gap narrow considerably.

:)

The Phasers are nice printers though.

never look back to inkjet ;)

btw, for those using laser printer, do u refill toner ?

coz these guys claim that every toner can be refilled for 3-5 times until drum wear out and will NOT void the warranty ?

btw, Is it ok to leave laser printer 24/7 ?
and when my laser printer startup, all my light blink for a few ms...
is it because it is drawing a lot of current ?
4MB should be plenty for everything but perhaps the most complex graphics.

The quality of refilled toner cartridges varies greatly. If you find a place that does a good job cheap, use them. Check your owner's manual to see if refilled cartridges can void your warrantee. They could on some older Lexmark lasers.

Yes, you can leave your printer on 24/7, but most will use a bit of juice to keep the fuser hot.
See if you have a 'standby mode' that you can put the printer in when you are not using it.

All the lights flashing at startup is more than likely just a POR lamp test.

Good luck with your new printer!
