I know I strongly dislike the Hasidic community and similar cultlike religious communities, regardless of the base faith. That being said, I do not get the sense that anti-semitism is based much at all on dislike of the Hasidim. I don't even think most of the country is aware they exist.

If you look at who the white nationalists seem to pour their vitriol out at it's Jewish members of the media, finance, etc, and those aren't the Hasidic.

Which is pretty bizarre. The housing market blew up because of stated income loans, everything else went down the crapper from there.

Right, anti-Semitic beliefs are anti-Semitic because they aren't rational or true. I suppose in some bizarre world where "the Jews" really did cause the financial crisis it wouldn't be anti-Semitic to believe it.

However, the term "anti-Semitism" - whatever its component parts - means hostility toward Jews, as the term has been used since its inception in the 19th century. Did you have another term in mind for Jew hatred?

I agree, but having Duke agree with you on this particular matter is a little distressing since the matter in question is anti-semitism.

I have to say that this neo-Nazi term "ZOG" which was coined by some Nazi back in the 70's is what first came to mind when I read about Omar's remarks. Even the Nazis used the word "Zionist" instead of the word "Jew."

You're talking about two different things. ZOG is a conspiracy theory that Jews control western govts. The occupation of Palestine by the Israelis (actual Zionists) is another matter entirely.

A "prominent" Republican, former Maine governor Paul LePage, essentially said that democrats are funded by 'dirty Jew money.' So which is it, do Democrats hate the ethno-religious group known as Jews or do they love them because they're funded by and beholden to them?

Sorry, but Omar wasn't talking about Israeli occupation of the West Bank. In fact, she didn't criticize Israeli policy at all in those comments. She was, rather, directing an ad hominem at American supporters of Israel, claiming their loyalty was divided. That and, of course, "the benjamins." Sounds a lot like ZOG to me. In fact, I can't see any real difference.

Duke probably knows that anyone he praises may suffer political damage, but that doesn't seem to be much of a consideration for him since he praises people like Trump who he clearly likes. He just praises any politician who says things he agrees with because it doesn't happen that often and these Nazis are prone to celebrate when it does.

He's following the Trumplican plan of tearing at the 'dirty democrats' as socialists/commies/jew haters/spawn of Cthulhu/etc/etc/etc. They are the 'other' that the Trump is, and has been, running against like every 'good' hard right asshole does (see Orban in Hungary as example).

Shits like Duke know exactly what's going on and are only too willing to chip in where they think it might help.

Most people have always looked for scapegoats outside their own group. WASP GOP voters aren't going to blame WASP GOP politicians for anything, if the policy of a WASP GOP president causes problems that's clearly caused by Leftists, LGBT, Muslims, Jews or other minorities. And since there is an 'overrepresentation' of Jews in both US congress (6.4% Jewish congressmen for 2% Jewish Americans) and popular media (a lot of US TV shows and movies feature at least one Jewish character, and those almost always have to point out their Jewish heritage) it's easy to claim that they are pulling the strings. Strong support of Israel makes it just worse for those (but not because of the Palestinian issue but because they see it as proof that Jews are controlling everything).
And for those that don't care about the percentage of Jews in congress or on TV the US support of an apartheids regime in Israel might still be something they dislike, but speaking out against it gets you immediately called an anti-semite, often by the people who caused the aforementioned housing market problems but aren't going to tell their followers to stop blaming Jews for it.
 
Pundits for the state of Israel intentionally label anti-zionism as antisemitic. Antisemitic is hatred of Jews in general. Zionism is a movement in support of the development and support of a Jewish state (what is now Israel), anti-zionism is opposition to such a religious state.

Personally I used to be very strongly in favor of the state of Israel, and didn't begrudge the billions of dollars the USA has spent in order to prompt it up. Jimmy Carter moved mountains to get Israel and Egypt to agree to the Camp David accords-which were a real prospect of a permanent sustainable peace. Israel since then has done everything possible to sabotage any lasting peace, relying on instead being a fortress nation funded by US dollars-meanwhile they treat the USA like crap. I don't really see any reason for us to continue to pour our money down that unsustainable fiasco. It's time to put US's interests first. That doesn't make me antisemitic.
