manual for me.

also, for those who learned to drive in auto first, then manual, did you find it to be easier? (learned how to control car first, accel, brake, turn, instead of doing everything plush learn clutch management/shifting).

For most people, learning in an auto first would be best. That way they can learn how to control the car properly before moving over to stick. Just one less thing to worry about when learning a manual, they might stall on hills, but they won't run into anything by getting the brake and clutch confused.

Of course I learned how to ride a motorcycle before a car, so the principles of clutching and shifting were not too hard to grasp.

Manual first. Now driving an Auto, however. I still prefer driving a Manual.

If you learn to drive in an Auto here, you can only drive an Auto. You have to retake your test to be able to drive a manual. If you learn in a Manual, you can drive both without needing to retake your test.

Manual. I've been driving for near 7 years, and I've never had the chance to drive an automatic. To tell the truth, I wouldn't mind. The joy of stick shifting can get old ;)

Learned to drive an automatic, then got my motorcycle, then learned on a manual car. Took me less than a day to get basically proficient with a manual transmission in a car.

Learned on auto. I picked up manual fairly fast, with my dad teaching. My friends sucked at teaching it.

Both at the same time, though I forgot how to drive a stick as it has been 6 years since I learned how to drive.

manual here. First time driving I was looking down to change the gear and almost run off a bridge.

Auto. My first car was an old '67 Malibu Powerglide (2 speed automatic). :D The only automatic I've ever owned.

Learned to drive in an automatic and about 9 months later, learned to drive a stick. My first car was a stick and I got it about 3 months before I turned 16 so I had time to learn to drive it before I got my license.
