I can't test either so I will put to Anand members better judgement.

p.s I don't game btw and I use right handed.

Remember, the coordless is gonna need batteries, and with it being optical as well, I bet it will use them up pretty quick.

If you don't mind replacing the batteries, then the coordless would be real nice.

I read the batteries last about 3 months.

What are the advantages of an optical mouse? It says they check position 1500 times a second, would that mean it has a refresh rate of 1500Hz? as opposed to the 100 or so of other mice. Or does it check 1500 times a sec but only refresh on screen alot less, say 200 times a sec?

Will it work ok on a smooth wooden surface?

Do they ever lose their signal and stutter?

What plugs into the comp on the logitech, a small reciever box or something?

Many Thanks

If you don't game than any comfortable, ergonomic mouse will work.

I'd recommend the cordless optical mouse from Logitech, or just a regular cordless one.

The mouse should do just fine on a wooden surface.

Logitech cordless mice use the 900Hz channel to transmit through radio waves, so unlike IR they don't need line of sight and aren't easily interefered by other electronic devices. The range is more than sufficient.

As for the receiver, it's a small black box that's pretty unobtrusive and it has a usb connector with a ps/2 convertor incluided.

I'd definitely go Logitech.

I just love my Logitech iFeel Mouseman optical. mind you i disabled iFeel, I still love the mouse for the shape and feel.. it's awesome for gaming, and anything otherwise!

The cordless Logitech would be my choice, since you don`t game then the low sampling rate will not be important.

I personally like the Microsoft trackball/wheel optical. It has the thumb trackball with 4 buttons on top instead of 2. The other two buttons I use for going back and forward on web pages which is very useful to me. I like it better than the Logitech because it is larger and fits my big hands better. But mice are very subjective so go to a store and just get what feels better in your hand.

Logitech... need I say more?

Well actually I should back my point up:

Build quality is excellent.

Durability is pretty much ROCK solid...

And also its a Logitech... They do ergonomics and also practicality in one...

So choice is up to you since you hold the money but I am a Logitech believer...

Say:

2 Cordless MouseMan Wheel Cordless
1 Corded Mouseman Wheel Optical (Blue One)
1 Oldish Mouse, PS2 one
1 iTouch Cordless Keybaord
1 iTouch Corded Keyboard
1 Standard Logitech Keyboard

So you see my faith in Logitech, and not ONE has EVER failed on me. So now you know what I am talking about.

Hope this helps you out mate :)

Albert.

I've tried many different mice over the years: microsoft, logitech, kensington, genius, etc. Logitech has consistently come out on top. They're the best.

I'd go with Logitech too, I've used MANY of their products and all are excellent.

I've owned...
Optical Mouseman Wheel with the blue LED (One I'm using now)
Cordless Mouseman Wheel (server)
Oldie Mouseman+ (Using it at work)
104 Key Logitech Keyboard (Server)
Itouch Cordless Keyboard (Using now)

All of these are still working perfectly, in fact, the only reason I changed mice is because something better came out, but any of these mice or keyboards are rock-solid. So if your looking for longevity, I'd definitely say Logitech.

I also am looking at getting a new mouse. I don't know why, my good old Logitech Cordless mouse is still going strong, and I have no problems in any games, and switching will more than likley not do me any good, but, I just feel like trying something new.

I'm DEFINALY going with cordless again, so, I think I might have to get the Logitech Cordless Optical. Looks really sweet.

I have used and like both but Logitech mice can take a LOT more punishment. So far 3 pieces have fallen out of my Microsoft Intellimouse Optical (but it still works).

Hehe, Logitech may be the one company that makes 101% reliable products ;) I've had many many logitech mouses, they never fail and there's never been one single problem with them.

And I'm totally in love with my MouseMan Optical :D Goddamn it's like designed to fit my hand :D

So umm yeah, I recommed the Logitech one - but dunno about that cordless thing tho..

i've had mice from both companies and have found them excellent. personally, i prefer microsoft's intellimouse optical mainly because it fits my hand a bit better than the smaller logitech mouse. Also i didn't like the position of the wheel in the low end logitech optical mouse. just my 2 cents, both microsoft and logitech make top notch mice i think.

the microsoft explorer definitely rules, but the right mouse button needs a little getting used to. the wheel on top is much more comfortable then the logitech wheels.
about optical: it's a must (no more cleaning the mouse ball). however a wooden surface doesn't always work; depends on the surface structure (repetitive textures are bad).

Go with Logitech. The problem with the batteries isn't a big problem. I use that mouse @ work, and the times you have to change the batteries i nothing compared to the pleasure this mouse will give you.

the logitech has horrible ergonomics, IMO. The mouse is curved unnaturally on the left side, very uncomfortable for a right hander like me. I couldnt keep my hand on it for 30 seconds without going nuts. I hate the way it felt. Its also a bit too small.

I am totally undecided on what mouse to buy. I am definitely going with Logitech and limited myself to the following three mice. BTW, they're all optical.

I have a question about the Cordless MouseMan Optical: Although the cordless feature is convenient sometimes, does anyone notice any drawbacks with going with a cordless mouse? I've posted this several times but haven't received an answer. Is the refresh rate slow because it's cordless, giving it choppy, jerky motion? I want a smooth mouse, and I'll go corded if necessary.

Logitech Cordless MouseMan Optical
Logitech MouseMan Wheel Optical
Logitech iFeel MouseMan

On another subject, I'm considering getting the Logitech Cordless iTouch Keyboard. Again, any drawbacks with using a cordless keyboard?

I'm looking specifically for SPEED and refresh rate/smoothness drawbacks, not battery drawbacks. Thanks.
