We used white lights this year. We just kind of rotate year by year and do whatever feels right at the time.

I hate single colored or themed trees. They feel so cold and store-like and I grew up with a hodge-podge, every-kid-had-four-ornaments-they-made-in-school, type of tree.

The only decision I have to make each year is whether to go with C7 or miniature lights. Either way I always go with multicolored.

I agree with this 100%. The professionally decorated, prelit trees may look neat, but they have no feeling. For me, 90% of the appeal of the Christmas tree is letting the kids decorate it however they want.

We have a pre-lit tree with multi-colored lights.

My sister-in-law has a prelit tree with all white lights... I like it too... more of a "classic" look IMHO, espically the way they decorate it.

On the outside of a house though... got to be all white or multi-colored. One of my neighbors has all blue lights... doesn't look good at all. Who has blue icicles?

My parents have blue icicle lights but they also have white icicle lights and they put them both up, one on top of the other. Gives it a neat effect.

see, that is how it is at our house, except our tree is not prelit so he puts the tree up, and i do everything else. (decorations, garland, nativity scene, wreaths.)
Although i cannot really b!tch because he put up the lights outside.

heh. i got SO lazy with the outside light situation this year. we have the icicle-type outside lights, but i really really didn't want to fsck with them - i envisioned myself untangling the mess of lights, replacing a dozen burnt-out bulbs, cursing, flinging them into a corner of the garage and stomping on them in a fit of rage.

so i went and bought 4 coloured pot lights and switched out the plain pot lights. bam, red Christmas-ey house. heck, it's not like the family gatherings are at our place anyway

The main tree is pre-lit white, as is the fake wreath over the fireplace and the garland wrapping the banister. The small tree in the dining room is fake but wrapped with colored lights. The little old beat up fake tree that I just can't throw away is in my den, also pre-lit with white lights.

There are also three fake pre-lit 2' trees on the front porch with white lights. All the other lights outside are mixed white and colors.

The 8 foot polar bear is white too

Anyone else over 30 annoyed that light manufacturers have added pink to the minilight strings? (they started this about 10-15 years ago)

It used to be only red, blue, yellow and green. Now they have both red AND pink. I understand they do this to make the lights seem brighter, but it makes my tree look pink and it sucks.

We never had light strings with reflectors.

My parents had some mini light strings from the 60s that were great. They had little nooses at each light to attach to the branches and the wire was MUCH longer between each light. High quality stuff. But, of course, the bummer back then was if one light burnt out, the whole string went out.

I put my own on and they're colored. I've tried the all white theme and it just didn't look spirited enough.

No tree but the house lights are mixed colors, with some solid strings, and three different sizes of bulbs. No blinkers.

I don't think there are any pink ones on the strings I have. I do recall there used to be salmon colored ones on some of the C7 strings we had.
