I have monsoon's m505s.

Got 'em after my z560's died on me.

These sound better than them, but aren't as loud and have a small sweet spot.

Highs! Hurrah! :)

I don't have a 5.1 or a 4.1 system. I've got the Altec Lansing ACS-45 2.1 system. Not bad speakers for what I do. When I play a game such as CS where sound is extremely important, I use my Panasonic RP-HT1000 headphones that I got for about $50 two years ago. Otherwise, I just use the speakers.

i personally run all 3

4.1 logitech z560's on my gaming rig
5.1 klipsch's running on my laptop (used for gaming and all other enterainment needs in the dorm room)
Sony mdr-v700's while the roomie is sleeping

if you've got the money to blow, spend it on the new logitech z680's and a good soundcard for them. otherwise i would pick up a set of the z560s or some nice grado or sennheiser (sp?) headphones.

I used the Sennheiser HD 580s before on my home built map (approx $300 total)

Switching to Etymotics ER4P and home built amp soon though (approx $780 total)

Can't really beat headphones IMO, if you get closed ones it's easier to listen for details like footsteps and they are generally better for music at the same price range.
