I voted post-Bangle. Though, I am not crazy for the current designs they are overall better and more technically advanced cars.

I think the opposite..... I hate the new 5. Love the new 3, Z4, 6, and even the 7.

No, I genuinely hate the style. Terrible lines, poor flow and balance. They almost look pieced together. BMW's design used to be the pinnacle of elegant simplicity. Bangle has gone completely against all that.

I bash because I critique intelligently and am left no other choice. Bangle is taking the marque's heritage and wiping his ass with it. OK a bit extreme with the imagery, but XUNDER NO FCKIN CIRCUMSTANCES should a 5-Series ever stand to be mistaken for a Pontiac from the front and a Subaru WRX from the rear. That's just not cool. Mercedes has no problem keeping their styling current without compromising their trademark design elements and overall elegant simplicity (to borrow the nice phrasing above). Neither does Jaguar (XJ series), or Porsche (911/Carrera). Incidentally, Cadillac, usually a winner in this department for years, DOES have trouble in this department as of late... but I digress.

I put this in an earlier BMW thread... a contemporary review of a 1994 BMW 530i. These are the comments regarding the design:

APPEARANCE: The 530i has traditional style in the manner of a Brooks Brothers suit. It is understated, functional, and well-made, denoting old-world tradition and status and not subject to transient vagaries of styling. In fact it is functionally boxy, with its rounded edges being almost the only concession to some of the current "aero" fashion. Minor cosmetic changes such as a slightly wider "kidneys" on the dual grille and cross-spoke alloy wheels were made to distinguish it from the 525i. It retains its trademark four round headlights and large heated side mirrors.

By the way, I also love how iDrive in the new lineup manages to oversimplify the dashboard interface (one big ass knob) to the point of complexity. Please only comment on this if you have used it personally!!

Lots of people don?t like The Z4 for some reason but it is hot imo and that new SLK is sweet too.

on that note I?m really thinking about getting the M6 when it comes out.

I like pre-Bangle much more. However, I am starting to like the looks of some of the current Bangle designs. I didn't like them so much in concept, but seeing them in person, the newer designs do grab your attention.

i dont understand, are you looking at the new 5 when you are drunk or something? Everytime i see a new 5, it stands out as a new 5. the thought of it looking like any other car never even came to my mind. and now that i try to compare pics...i still dont see the similarity

6 series has droopy headlights and trunk that's just unexplainable
7 series has again weird headlights and odd trunk a la 6 series

For some reason all the headlight have new outta-nowhere curves and zig zags that look like crap. Take the x3 headlight for example - the upper edge chenges diretction 90 degrees to follow the hood line and such.
And there should be absolutely no eyebrow-like objects...this aint a junior college art class, you just don't put in crap like that because it would be cool to have a cr with eyebrows :roll:

I hate all the post-bangle cars. They might be more technologically advanced, but so far I've seen mostly negative reviews of stuff like i-drive and active srteering. I just wish I could have bought the E46 M3 before they mess it up.

i totally agree with you regarding all the headlights... i didn't even like the headlights for the 3series from around 03 onward.
