Illinois is a fairly developed place with lots of cultural variety. People exposed from an early age to diversity of lifestyle and opinion will grow up liberal. Only in the ingrown cabbage patches of America does the monotonous conformity of conservative insularity thrive. Diversity and cultural stimulation lead to greater brain complexity and neuronal development leading to greater intellectual creativity and ideation. The more cutting edge the mind, the more liberal. From the map of red and blue in America you can see where social evolution is occurring.

Obama should have a good chance of winning.

i believe most counties, except for cook, are for bush. cook county is chicago for those who dont know. if chicago was in another state, illinois would be for bush.\

I live in DuPage county, and I must say it's FULL of Republicans, but not right wing nut jobs.

That's the Problem with the Dub and Kerry, it's hard to decipher what they actually stand for (well in the Dub's case actions speak louder than words and unlike his words are actually decipherable.)

If you look through the rhetoric and smooth talking. You will find they both stand for just about the same things.

Curiously the GOPies are trying to choose between someone who STILL doesn't live in IL and a woman with Bushesque personal demons. My how the mighty GOP has fallen.

Barthwell, who did not speak with reporters Wednesday, also has issues to contend with, including her admission that she is a recovering drug and alcohol abuser and details in an internal inquiry last year that said she engaged in ``lewd and abusive behavior'' with comments about a colleague's sexual orientation while at the White House drug policy office.

don't laugh so hard next time

Where's that one Thomas Jefferson quote?

ah yes, here it is....

"I do not find in our particular superstition of Christianity one redeeming feature.....Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burned, tortured, fined and imprisoned. What has been the effect of this coercion. To make half the world fools and half hypocrites; to support roguery and error all over the world."

The Real Tomas Jefferson

Nm, these types of arguments are never won or lost. I'm sure TJ was a religious person, but I've got a quote, you've got a right-wing version of what he may have been thinking.

Is that really what you got out of this article on Thomas Jefferson?

1) I was trying to be nice by not airing the woman's dirty laundry . . . or rehashing Bush's.
2) The opposite of liberal is not republican. Arguably the opposite of responsible government is having all three branches dominated by a single party. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a middle aged white man . . . that's all he has in common with John Ashcroft.
3) Now that it looks like Keyes is the favored GOPie . . . will he take back his carpetbagger claim against Hilary Clinton? For a person that allegedly has so much respect for our institutions . . . is this how you show it? Next thing you know Bush will claim that life is sacred then invade a country and drop tons of munitions in civilian areas . . . oh and make light of not counting the casualties.

Yeah it's a word that leftist liberals like to forget for some reason. I wonder why ?

Did you complain about Clinton not from New York yet ran for the senate seat in NY? Now it is your chance to point out that Keyes has never lived in IL.

Or did you laugh about Edwards being the "second choice"? Well, here's your chance to point out that Keyes is the "Third Choice".

No, they'd puke if they saw our court system, the size and scope of our gov't, and moral decay that abounds.

CkG

Probably just if they saw the size and scope of our gov't. The founding fathers were no saints.

Obama is an incredible success story, however as a politician he is very liberal, even compared to liberal democrats.

He barely escaped the democratic primaries in March, which he was behind in the last few weeks or month until a controversial story broke on the poll leader. Only after that did he pummelled the other candidates.

Had Keyes been considered 9 months ago, he might have had a chance.

Chicago would be where culture is happening and the effects would radiate out from there. Diversity is like nuclear fusion and the resultant light of stars. Mental evolution takes place as a result of stimulation and cross fertilization.
Yah, Cabrini Green and Wrigleyville. Not much cross fertilization going on there :)

Most segregated cities in the US, Chicago ranks #9

Interesting we have several mentions of the "right-wing attack machine" and jack ryan's publicity stunt, but no mention of the Tribune suing to open sealed divorce records?

Well, the early leader, Blair Hull, wasn't in front by that much initially. Sure, Hull was hurt by the February release of unsealed divorce records that said he struck his ex-wife and threatened her. But when the votes were tallied, Obama had 53% of the vote and his closest challenger had 24% (Hull ended up with 10%)--it wasn't even close.

[Keyes is] apparently willing to relocate, even though four years ago he told FOX News, quote, "I deeply resent the destruction of federalism represented by Hillary Clinton's willingness to go into a state she doesn't even live in and pretend to represent people there. So I certainly wouldn't imitate her."

Keyes doesn't have a chance. The reason Republicans would put him out there is just to say, "Look what we have here. We have a black man. Do you see? Hah? Can you see? Hah? Democrats say we are racist but see here, this here is a black man. Honest. We didn't paint him or anything."

Looks like Keyes is all set to announce his candidacy on Sunday. Less than three months to go, things could get interesting, but I still don't see it happening for him.

Keys is very sharp, but he has a caustic side to him that won't sit well with voters. Obama is hope and sunshine, and he's one of the most exciting political figures I've seen in a long time. His convention speech was riveting. We need to know more about him. Assuming he has no unknown negatives, I would think he'd whip Keys' butt.
