Saw on CNN, Keyes doesn't stand a chance. Note, it's only under consideration, Keyes has not been chosen yet.

Here's a link.

''It would be a classic race of conservative vs. liberal,''
I'd love to see a debate between them. Although I don't agree with Keyes on most issues he does present the conservative viewpoint better than most in his party. He definately doesn't stoop to the level of Hannity, Coulter and Limbaugh.

Obama corners the market on charisma, but his lack of experience (re: none) will hurt him in the end.

Obama has more legislative experience than Keyes does.

Prior to the DNC I had never heard of Obama where as I like most of those who keep up with American Politics are familiar with Keyes. However I'm not from Ill. so I don't know how familiar the voters from that state are with Obama.

Do the voters of Ill. agree with his ideas though or just those on the far Right? Beibng able to articulate ideas that most disagree with doesn't mean a vitory, it just means less confusion when casting your ballot.

That's the Problem with the Dub and Kerry, it's hard to decipher what they actually stand for (well in the Dub's case actions speak louder than words and unlike his words are actually decipherable.)

"What's the first principle of the Declaration of Independence?" keynote speaker and former presidential candidate Alan Keyes asked in his address. "It's very simple. We ought to keep it in our minds more. 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.' Recently, we've been focused on the equal part, but you can't get to 'equal' without going through the 'created.' We have a right as citizens to acknowledge God in our laws and in our actions."
umm, ok. The first ammendment says otherwise.
"If God doesn't exist, then we have no rights and we cannot demand respect for those rights," Keyes said. "In the last
several decades, we have seen an assault on every public moral and religious value. People now pretend this nation was founded on war; I say it was founded on prayer."
"Reagan had a sense that the American people had a sense of integrity and we just had to free them to use it," Keyes said. "I think that for a lot of us, Reagan was shaped by God to be a president of the United States."
Would his stories about welfare queens be an example of this integrity?

This guy is nuts. I don't see how anyone (black people especially) can take this guy seriously.

oh and, link.

Those like Keyes believe we should guide the Nation with the Bible. That is not how our Forefathers intended the nation to be run.

Illinois is a fairly developed place with lots of cultural variety. People exposed from an early age to diversity of lifestyle and opinion will grow up liberal. Only in the ingrown cabbage patches of America does the monotonous conformity of conservative insularity thrive. Diversity and cultural stimulation lead to greater brain complexity and neuronal development leading to greater intellectual creativity and ideation. The more cutting edge the mind, the more liberal. From the map of red and blue in America you can see where social evolution is occurring.

Obama should have a good chance of winning.

From what I hear, Illinois politics is extremely corrupt (from both the left and right sides). I think Obama is a breath of fresh air that many people might be looking for. There is really no limit to what this guy can achieve, and I predict big things for him. He'ls literally a saint, completely clean slate.

Have you also compared crime rates from the different areas on that map?

Alan Keyes, sacrificial lamb. Anybody the repubs run will likely receive a classic ass-whupping...

Hopefully, just one of many...

As Americans it is our duty to NEVER elect any public official who is going to instead of leading with their jab, leads with a bible. There is NO place in government for religion. There are too many different religions in this country and no ONE of them should be represented by any politician in a government role.

Hmm, let's see what George Washington, a Forefather and our first President had to say:

?What students would learn in American schools above all is the religion of Jesus Christ.?
--George Washington in a speech to the Delaware Indian Chiefs May 12, 1779

"It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and Bible."

"It is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favors."

?The name of American, belongs to you?[and] with slight shades of difference, you have the same religion.?
--George Washington in his Farewell Address to the American people, Paragraph 10; September 17, 1796 | photo of farewell address

and what others had to say about him:

"Is it necessary that any one should [ask], ?Did General Washington avow himself to be a believer in Christianity?" As well may we question his patriotism, his heroic devotion to his country. His mottos were, "Deeds, not Words"; and, "For God and my Country." {Quote by Nelly Custis-Lewis, Washington's adopted daughter

?He was a sincere believer in the Christian faith and a truly devout man.?
{Quote by John Marshall [Revolutionary General, Secretary of State, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice]}

"To the character of hero and patriot, this good man added that of Christian. Although the greatest man upon earth, he disdained not to humble himself before his God and to trust in the mercies of Christ.?
{Quote by Gunning Bedford, signer of the Constitution}

A Portion of George Washington's personal prayers:

?O Most Glorious God, in Jesus Christ, my merciful and loving Father; I acknowledge and confess my guilt in the weak and imperfect performance of the duties of this day. I have called on Thee for pardon and forgiveness of my sins, but so coldly and carelessly that my prayers are become my sin, and they stand in need of pardon.?
? I have sinned against heaven and before Thee in thought, word, and deed. I have contemned Thy majesty and holy laws. I have likewise sinned by omitting what I ought to have done and committing what I ought not. I have rebelled against the light, despising Thy mercies and judgment, and broken my vows and promise. I have neglected the better things. My iniquities are multiplied and my sins are very great. I confess them, O Lord, with shame and sorrow, detestation and loathing and desire to be vile in my own eyes as I have rendered myself vile in Thine. I humbly beseech Thee to be merciful to me in the free pardon of my sins for the sake of Thy dear Son and only Savior Jesus Christ who came to call not the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Thou gavest Thy Son to die for me.?

"Make me to know what is acceptable in Thy sight, and therein to delight, open the eyes of my understanding, and help me thoroughly to examine myself concerning my knowledge, faith, and repentance, increase my faith, and direct me to the true object, Jesus Christ the Way, the Truth, and the Life, ..."

Well, considering that Jack Ryan had hired an "escort" to follow Obama around full-time this spring, with no negative results, I imagine he's pretty clean. I frankly thought that was a bizarre new low in campaign tactics, and God knows what such an escort would have seen if Obama had done the same thing to Ryan - he could have partially defrayed the cost by reselling the footage to Girls Gone Wild.

Where's that one Thomas Jefferson quote?

ah yes, here it is....

"I do not find in our particular superstition of Christianity one redeeming feature.....Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burned, tortured, fined and imprisoned. What has been the effect of this coercion. To make half the world fools and half hypocrites; to support roguery and error all over the world."

Why do I have the feeling that you had that all ready to go about 2 years ago and have been waiting for someone to say the country was never intended to be governed by the Bible.

Sheesh. You need help. Thank God you aren't a politician.

They must have been part of the "taliban wing" of their time. I mean guns and God? Had to be taliban.

Nm, these types of arguments are never won or lost. I'm sure TJ was a religious person, but I've got a quote, you've got a right-wing version of what he may have been thinking.
