Poll: ATTN All Manual Transmission drivers!!

I like overdrive. Low RPM=longer engine life and better gas mileage. 😀 I'm very secure sexually. My car is a transport devise.

Well... seeing as I can potentially go faster in 6th than I can in 3rd or 4th on my favorite strip of road outside of town, it gets my vote. 😀

nik (can't wait for Viper GTS to get another car 😉)

Usually 3rd or 4th. We just got a huge dump of snow (6 inches lol) so I've been spending most of my time in 2nd...

LMAO!!! Best quote of the day 😎

2nd. Here in Santa Cruz, there are only a few spots where the speed limit is > 25. 25mph in my car is ~3500rpm, if I remember correctly. Yay for DOHC VTEC and an 8k RPM redline 🙂

Overall, my favorite is 3rd. But in my Corolla, 4th is just plain awesome. I love taking it up to 65 mph, thinking that the engine is going to explode, and then shifting up to 5th and sighing in relief. What a great feeling.

Stefan, I chose 1st, because that's where it all begins, besides, when I used to have a car, being first off the light was just plain fun 🙂 Yes, I know it's immature, but when I used to drive stick, it was fun 🙂

1st gear goes away too quickly. In my Accord (87, 90hp), 2nd still has good pull and lasts quite a while longer. 3rd doesn't have the same feeling at all.

3rd for me. It'll run me anywhere from 20MPH to ~110MPH...and it'll do it pretty quick.

I usually drive in 5th whenever I can, even going 30, but when I really open it up, I usually rev the highest in 2nd gear.

3rd especially if my hands are full with other things. You can start a car in third and you can get up to a decent speed in third.

3rd gear - mashing the pedal at around 30mph/2000rpm and seeing the boost peg 15psi...all the way past the speed limit 😀 gotta love it.

A common misconception.

With most smaller engines it's much harder on them to "lug" the engine (not keep the RPM's up) than it is to rev them higher.

I like to keep my "R's" at about 3000-4000. Hence I drive in 3rd gear a lot.

You've obviously never seen a Viper smoke the wheels from dead stop in 6th gear.
