Since I sell computers as my job it seems kind of odd asking but I'd like to get a 3rd, 4th opinion anyway. I've already placed an order for the ASUS Transformer through the company I work for, NCIX, but I'll be in the bak order list like a regular customer (A month or more). I've tried out the transformer and I love the look and feel of it. Today though we just got in a demo Acer Iconia (NOT the dual screen one) and I must say it seems to operate even smoother with fewer hickups. Normally I trust ASUS MUCH more than Acer, I always recommend their laptops first to customers, as well as their mobos of course. Both run stock Honeycomb on a Tegra 2 so theoretically both should run the same but there's always lots of tweaking that the manufacturer can do. The feel of the Iconia isn't quite as nice as the ASUS (I prefer the thickness of the ASUS and the textured back) but it does have 2 USB ports on it (a full sized and a micro) which I can see coming in handy for peripherals and USB sticks and such. Both are priced the same for the 32GB model $499. I ordered the 16GB Transformer but I also won a $100 NCIX gift card through some sales contest we had so I could get the 499 one of either by just paying the taxes on the difference. Which of these two would YOU get? There's also the option of sticking with the 16GB Transformer and putting the gift card towards the keyboard dock for it. Which would you go for?

Lol so I've gone for the one with 0 votes. I'm going to place the $100 gift card towards the 32GB transformer. It could take a month or two to get the 16GB model while the 32GB model looks like I'll get in 2 or 3 weeks.

I've only read the positive reviews of the transformer, so until I read something good or bad about the Acer I'd stick with it in your shoes.

I doubt I'd use the extra storage for a primarily streaming device, 16 GB seems enough so spending $100 less also appeals to me. The keyboard dock also seems to work properly if you decide you want it later (I'd probably skip it).

I'll find out tomorrow when my transformer gets delivered. Can't wait. Love them gadgets.

I think you'll be happy with it. The feel of the transformer is great. Google needs to release at least a few more updates to Honeycomb before it's really solid. Random crashes are still an issue here and there.

My dad actually just got that Acer and I played with it for a bit the other day. VERY nice I must say. Haven't had a chance to mess with the transformer yet.

If you see yourself using the dock with the transformer, then that hands down. Otherwise it looks like its a tossup.

Also I believe the transformer does use a custom skin on top of stock honeycomb (think its called wave something). From what I can tell, it has a different keyboard, some custom widgets, and a few cosmetic changes on icons and whatnot

Transformer! Just got one last night from Newegg (32GB). Plan on selling it to make some money back, then put it towards at 16GB Transformer 😉

iPad 2. Apple is going to own the tablet space for at least the next 3 years. You'll have much better app selection for the life of the tablet. If you hate apple enough to pass on the market leader, then just get a deal on a Nook color and hack it.

Btw, I own an android phone, dislike many of apple's mobile practices, and don't like to see apple in control of a market in anything, so I'm more of a apple hater than fanboy.

I would go for the transformer simply because more is known about the transformer. There are a good amount of reviews for it already, and they are generally positive. Grab the dock if you feel you'll need it.

Go to your local BestBuy and play with the Iconia...you'll notice how much it sucks and how laggy it is. Then wander over to an iPad 2 and play around...very nice. I have way too many Android apps on my phone to go over to the dark side though...just hoping Asus gets their production levels together.

Transformer + Dock. It's the best Android tablet there is. The typing + 80% extra battery life + laptop look and feel is worth it .

You don't need the 32gb as there is an in built sd slot in the Transformer anyway.

Come again? Damn things are selling for between $600 to $700 locally on CL. Why the hell wouldn't I try to make a few bucks out of the deal?

Well I don't know about asshole but it IS annoying. I don't blame you for wanting to make a few bucks, but it's the same as ticket scalpers and feels like a bit of a dick move. It is because of people like you that people who actually want the product have to wait just that much longer. This happens everytime there is huge demand for a product and limited stock. People swoop in and buy up the limited stock and force those who are waiting to have to wait even longer, when those who got them first don't even want them for themselves.

I'm looking to pick up a Transformer too, with the dock, but who knows when that'll be. At this rate, the Chromebooks will be out/available, and I'm also tempted at that as well...

Business is business. If people want to pay an extra 200 for a gadget just because it's hard to find, then they're just adding to the problem. If people weren't paying extra people wouldn't BUY extra just to resell them.

Artificially limiting the supply by buying them up and reselling them at a higher price so other people can't buy them at retail? Business is asshole. Especially given he explicitly stated he's going to sell the one he bought at a profit to buy another one cheaper which he intends to use. Just use the one you fucking bought in the first place asshole.

I agree but no one said you couldn't still be a dick about business.
